Cooking with the Guna Indians: Coconut Rice, Fried Conchs, and Island Delights. Join us on an unforgettable culinary journey as we visit the Guna Indians on their island and delve into their traditional cuisine. Learn how to prepare coconut rice, fried conchs in sauce, and sweet fried plantains, adding a touch of sweetness to dinner. Discover their secrets to cooking stewed clams and the myriad dishes they create from coconuts. ... Off Panama's coast lie the San Blas Islands, a collection of about 365 islands and reefs. Nearly 50 of these are inhabited, home to friendly communities. These islands are part of Guna Yala, where the Guna people live happily by the Caribbean Sea. We were lucky enough to become friends with a Guna completely by chance. One day, an indigenous person paddled up to us in a canoe and asked if we could charge their phones because the generator on their island had broken down. Over the next few days, Patrick paddled over to us, and we charged their phones while getting to know them better. Of course, I mentioned that we collect recipes from around the world, and one day Patrick invited us to eat dinner with them on their island, promising to teach us how to cook local food.
Winter has fully set in here in Newfoundland—and Arabella is surrounded by ice ❄️ When the harbor freezes, shifting ice sheets can grind against the hull with the tide. Here’s how we protect our liveaboard sailboat using a deicer (bubbler system) and a floating log buffer to keep the ice off the boat. Full episode is live on the channel - https://youtu.be/xLo4kUuuYKo #WinterSailing #BoatLife #Newfoundland #LiveaboardLife #FrozenHarbor #SailboatLife #ColdWeather #AdventureVlog #shorts -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! I’ve just left the remote island village of 29 people in southern Japan, where my boat is moored, and arrived in Tokyo for a conference on aging and gerontology with IAFOR ( The International Academic Forum) Before that, I’m walking across the city to meet my Tokyo “MOAI”—a small, regular community that stays connected both in person and digitally. It’s a reminder of something I’m seeing again and again across Japan’s longevity hotspots: Community isn’t one thing. It’s many. And perhaps that’s part of the art of living long and well. Lowell Sheppard is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Founder of the Never Too Academy, Special Advisor with IAFOR ( International Academic Forum), and author of ten books. Through Japan Solo, he shares field notes on longevity, community, and independent living across Japan. His forthcoming book, Longevity and the Art of Community: Lessons from Japan, explores how community supports living long—and living well. #JapanSolo #Longevity #Community #HealthyAging #TokyoLife
