Step 3 â Guide your dog to the mat Every single time. Keep your cue consistent: âgo pottyâ. Step 4 â Reward immediately Praise during, treat right after. This is where the magic happens. Step 5 â Add a scent marker Put a tiny bit of your dogâs own pee on the mat the first days. It helps a lot. Step 6 â Build a routine Take your dog to the mat after sleep, food, play, and excitement.
