Korte broek Opprett

February, 2012 - I interviewed charter race boat captain AJ Smith in Saint Martin. We had just completed a 1,500 nautical mile sail from Savannah, Georgia aboard Swan 48 "Bella Luna."

Two new things today. First, a replacement for our much abused Makita drill which has given up. The grip on the chuck for changing drills was already worn to the point of being very hard to tighten or release, the motor has been struggling for a while too. So new, more powerful one with harder wearing metal parts. Plus the cutest little kettle for our Refleks stove. Now we don't need to use electricity (if we have the diesel stove on) to make tea/coffere or do the washing up :-) We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. We have a frequently updated blog at https://sustainablesailing.net with membership options and a weekly newsletter at £2 per month for Early Bird Supporters. Our free Sustainable Sailing book is at: https://sustainablesailing.codeberg.page/ Or visit our shop at https://sustainablesailing.teemill.com/ for great hoodies, t-shirts and bags. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc). A quick video of our recent launch after 9 months out of the water. Some seacocks serviced, some replaced, but all checked. So many people seem to take for granted that boats are just water tight, they’re not. Take care, and check all Seacocks when you are lifted. Give yourself good time to replace if needed, alongside a drying pile can be a rush and sometimes not enough time. And make sure all cocks are checked whikst you are held (preferably in slings at the yard).
