Deploy the life ring. Use the deep beach reach method with engines on for maneuverability. Through out the maneuver, keep the vessel as close as possible to the victim. Tack the boat, turn downwind and sail back down and slightly past the victim so that you will approach from a downwind position. Position the victim on the windward side of the boat. If you're learning to sail, you should know this information before venturing out. When turning on engines, always check for lines in the water that can entangle the prop.
