Lake Lipno in the Czech Republic provided an unforgettable week of Olympic sailing as the best young sailors from across Europe gathered to compete for medals at the Junior European Championships. A wide variety of wind conditions and sunny weather ensured exciting racing and great experiences on and off the water. The 2024 European Junior Championships in the 49er and 49erFX classes, together with the Eurocup event in the 29er class, brought an exciting 4 days of intense racing to the Lake Lipno for over 140 competitors from 18 nations. The event was held under the auspices of the President of the Czech Republic Mr. Petr Pavel. On Thursday, despite a favourable forecast, there was only one race in the 49er and 49erFX classes as a storm thwarted the plans of the race committee. This knot is called a round turn and two half hitches. And the round turn of two half hitches is a fantastic knot for tying on fenders. So here are the steps to do a round turn and two half hitches. You go all the way around your stanchion or the dock post, leave quite a bit of tail. So there's our round turn we like to go over and you come back through that triangle, tighten it up, and the second time we come under. And then back over and that tightens it up. And that's a clean looking round turn, two half hitches. And you can see how that is a real strong, solid knot that's gonna hold your fenders or your dinghy to a dock.
