In this video I show how to tie the bowline knot. We use the bowline knot to form a loop at the end of a line that does not contract. This is needed for example to fix a line at a mooring post or to attach the halyard on the head of a sail. #shorts Off grid living requires attention to detail. If a towing line breaks it could mean losing a very valuable piece of equipment for those living aboard a boat. Knowing a few basic knots turned a potential headache into a minor fix. Also, setting up a redundant system saved me from having to buy a new dinghy! My advice is ALWAYS have backup lines if you tow your dinghy. Also, I should have put in abrasion guards of some sort but I didn’t! Off grid living requires planning ahead. This was a clear example of just how important that is.
A program through the Alberta government has been implemented to restore historical wetlands on agricultural properties. The county applied for the grant and asked me to host the project here on the farm. Of course, everyone here was in agreement. 80 year old aerial photos and other evidence indicate that this field had wetlands that were subsequently filled in and lost. As happens everywhere that factory farming occurs. Now, in order to destroy wetlands on your land, you have to pay a fee. Those fees go into these WRP (Wetland Restoration Project) projects. I feel great that we are contributing to the development of habitat for countless pollinators, amphibians, and bird and mammal life with this project. I’ll put out a full-length video soon with more details.
