Saba completely stole our hearts, and saying goodbye wasn't easy. 🌋❤️ Before setting sail, we squeezed every last adventure out of what has become our favorite island in the Caribbean. Our final day starts with one last spectacular hike from The Bottom to Windwardside via the beautiful Crispeen Trail and Mas Cohones Trail. The lush jungle, towering trees, and peaceful mountain scenery make this one of the most rewarding hikes on the island. Even though the kids were running out of energy, the breathtaking views from Mas Cohones Hill made every step worth it. To celebrate an unforgettable stay, we stop at the hidden Colibri Café, tucked away in a tropical botanical garden. With local Saba beer, delicious smoothies, and two playgrounds for the kids, it was the perfect way to end our time ashore. But one adventure remained... We jumped into the dinghy for one last trip around Saba's dramatic north coast. Towering volcanic cliffs, rugged coastline, and crystal-clear Caribbean water gave us a final reminder of why this tiny island is unlike anywhere else we've visited. Saba may be small, but it left us with some of our biggest memories. We already can't wait to come back. Saba completely blew us away. 🤯 After waiting for the perfect weather window, we finally sailed to one of the least-visited islands in the Caribbean—and it instantly became one of our favorites. Towering straight out of the sea, Saba looks more like something from Jurassic World than the Caribbean. Steep volcanic cliffs, lush green mountains, tiny villages perched on impossible slopes, and almost no beaches make this island unlike anywhere we've sailed before. Our adventure starts beneath the water as we snorkel around one of Saba's famous pinnacles. Crystal-clear water, healthy coral reefs, colorful tropical fish, and abundant marine life make it one of the most unique snorkeling spots we've experienced. Next comes the adventure ashore. With no easy beach landing, we anchor the dinghy offshore and swim to land before making our way along the rugged coastline to reach The Ladder—the historic stone staircase that was once Saba's only connection to the outside world. Between dramatic cliffs, loose rocks tumbling from above, incredible ocean views, and a passing rain shower, it's an unforgettable hike. The adventure continues with a ride to The Bottom, Saba's charming capital, where we hike the beautiful Parish Hill Trail. The trail winds through lush jungle and open grassy ridges, rewarding us with panoramic views over the island's iconic red rooftops and even the cloud-covered summit of Mount Scenery. After finally finding the perfect weather window, we arrive in spectacular Saba and check in by sailboat to one of the most unique islands in the Caribbean. Our adventure begins with a ride along the legendary "Road That Couldn't Be Built"—an engineering marvel carved into impossibly steep volcanic mountainsides. Many believed construction was impossible, yet today it connects the island's colorful villages with breathtaking views around every corner. Then comes our biggest challenge yet: hiking Mount Scenery, Saba's dormant volcano and the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Together with our 2 and 4-year-old, we tackle all 1,064 steps through an incredible journey of changing ecosystems. Along the trail, we discover delicious wild wine berries, wander beneath towering rainforest canopies, enter mysterious elfin forests, and finally emerge into a magical cloud forest hidden among the mist. Lunch at the summit, surrounded by clouds, is a moment we'll never forget. Saba truly lives up to its nickname: The Island in the Clouds. Life in Saint Martin is looking much brighter this week! 🌴⛵ After a rough stretch of boat problems and setbacks, we're finally enjoying island life again. Coral is having the time of her life jumping off the sailboat into the crystal-clear Caribbean waters, and we experience the vibrant atmosphere of Les Mardis de Grand Case with colorful costumes, music, dancing, and incredible local culture. Not everything goes according to plan though! What starts as a simple hiking adventure quickly turns into a disaster when we can't find the trail, get attacked by paper wasps, and end up dealing with a painfully swollen foot. Back aboard, we finally receive the long-awaited part for our watermaker. Will it finally solve our freshwater problems? We also tackle a massive provisioning run to stock up the boat before setting sail for one of the Caribbean's most unique islands: Saba. If you're visiting Saint Martin / Sint Maarten, these are experiences you won't want to miss! We hop on a local bus to the Dutch side and head to the world-famous Maho Beach, where massive jets fly just overhead before landing at Princess Juliana Airport. Seeing these giant planes pass only a few meters above the beach is every bit as impressive as people say! After exploring beautiful St. John in the US Virgin Islands, it's time to check out of Cruz Bay and set sail for a long overnight passage to the island of Saint Martin! The crossing keeps us busy as the fishing lines come alive and we land multiple tuna along the way. After arriving in Marigot on the French side of the island, we're quickly reminded why so many cruisers love Saint Martin. Fresh baguettes from the bakery, affordable wine and cheese, waterfront happy hours, and a relaxed European atmosphere make it feel completely different from anywhere else in the Caribbean. We climb up to historic Fort Louis for an unforgettable sunset overlooking the bay, join the floating boat party known as Floatchella, and make a provisioning run to the Dutch side of the island where we discover one of the best-stocked grocery stores we've seen in the Caribbean. This week aboard SV Wildly Intrepid we continue exploring the stunning island of Saint John! We sail from beautiful Waterlemon Bay to the world famous Trunk Bay with its crystal clear turquoise water and perfect white sand beach. A tropical rain shower clears the crowds and leaves us almost alone in paradise before we head to Cinnamon Bay for more beach adventures… and even run into a wild donkey! By evening we anchor in stunning Maho Bay where the adventures keep coming. We hike up to the incredible America Hill Great House Ruins, explore the Maria Hope Trail, paddleboard, wingfoil, and watch Coral and Kai become real little hikers. To finish it all off, we sail into Cruz Bay to celebrate Cory’s birthday with ice cream at Mongoose Junction, painkillers at The Beach Bar, burgers and fries, and birthday cake back onboard SV Wildly Intrepid. This week aboard SV Wildly Intrepid we explore what might be the most beautiful island we’ve visited all season… 🌴🇻🇮 Sailing the US Virgin Islands with our buddy boat, we explore St John Island and hike the incredible trail from Francis Bay while discovering the crystal clear waters of Francis Bay and Maho Beach. Then we sail over to Waterlemon Bay for snorkeling around Waterlemon Cay — but the water was WAY colder than expected! To warm up we head ashore to explore the historic Annaberg Plantation ruins and learn about the island’s powerful and heartbreaking past. We finish the adventure with a hike up to the Windy Hill Great House ruins where the panoramic views over the US and British Virgin Islands absolutely blew us away. 🌴 Island hopping through the USVI brought us from the busy streets of Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas to the wild beauty of St. John… and what an adventure it turned into. We wandered the steep chaotic roads of Charlotte Amalie (definitely not the most pedestrian-friendly place 😅), got rescued with a ride from a local, and made our way up to the incredible views at Drake’s Seat with turquoise bays below and the viewpoint of the town. After more exploring through town, we cooled off with pool time and drinks overlooking the harbour near the legendary Blackbeard's Castle — pirate vibes included. 🏴‍☠️ Then it was time to sail over to Saint John and the contrast was unreal. Our sail from Puerto Rico to the US Virgin Islands started off absolutely perfect… warm winds, beautiful seas, and another unforgettable Caribbean passage aboard SV Wildly Intrepid. But once we arrived in St. Thomas, things got interesting fast. We explored the abandoned tunnels of Fort Segarra on Water Island, tucked deep inside a hidden military bunker overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Then we escaped strong easterly winds in the crowded anchorage of Christmas Cove before sailing into the heart of Charlotte Amalie — one of the most historic and pirate-filled towns in the Caribbean. From riding local dollar safari buses to climbing up to Blackbeard’s Castle for incredible harbour views, this island had so much character. But one hike turned into a total disaster when we ended up bushwhacking through sharp thorns in the blazing heat… definitely not the adventure we planned. What started as a simple sail turned into a full-on emergency… As we left Vieques, a hose clamp suddenly snapped—dumping all our engine coolant in seconds. With no engine and two little ones onboard, we had no choice but to drop anchor fast and figure things out. From there, we sail on to Culebra—one of the cutest islands in Puerto Rico. We explore the famous Playa Flamenco, treat ourselves to some well-earned ice cream, take in the views, and tackle the never-ending cruiser chore… laundry. Next stop: Fajardo. A full-on mission to reprovision the boat before our next big sail to the US Virgin Islands. Not every stop is planned… and sometimes those are the best ones. We dropped anchor in Puerto Patillas, Puerto Rico and were blown away. A peaceful anchorage, a waterfront park with a playground (perfect for homeschooling days), live music, and even iguanas roaming around—it quickly became one of those unexpected favorites. But the real goal? Vieques Island. After a rolly night in Esperanza, we moved to the calm anchorage of Puerto Ferro—and that’s when the adventure really began. A long dinghy ride in the dark brought us to Mosquito Bay, the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world… and it did NOT disappoint. Every movement lit up the water in glowing blue. One of the most surreal experiences we’ve ever had. We wrapped it up exploring Puerto Ferro—hiking, paddleboarding through mangroves, and even spotting baby spotted eagle rays. Not every sailing day goes to plan… and this one REALLY didn’t 😅 We kick things off with a beautiful, calm sail past Cabo Rojo Lighthouse—one of the most stunning coastlines in Puerto Rico. But from there… things start to unravel. We anchor in La Parguera hoping to experience the famous bioluminescent bay… but it’s a total fail. Next stop, Ponce, for a much-needed resupply—but we tried to take a short cut to the store which involves one of our sketchiest dinghy rides yet, battling waves crashing as we enter the creek 😬 (fail #2). Hoping to turn things around, we sail to Caja de los Muertos (Coffin Island)—a stunning island with crystal-clear water. But even here, our hike to the lighthouse turns into another fail thanks to a brutal cactus-covered trail 🌵 Thankfully, not everything goes wrong… we find some incredible snorkeling and wrap things up sailing into Salinas. After months of life in Luperón, Dominican Republic, it was finally time to move on… and take on one of the Caribbean’s most notorious crossings — the Mona Passage. We set sail for Puerto Rico on a 47-hour, 245 nautical mile passage, pushing through a double overnight sail with little sleep and sea sickness, and light wind. Landfall didn’t exactly go as planned… Our first stop in Rincón turned into a rolly anchorage, forcing us to keep moving. We pushed further south to Boquerón — and finally found what we needed: ✔️ Calm waters ✔️ A real night of sleep ✔️ A stunning beach and vibrant town From there, things got a lot more fun — paddleboarding in strong winds and even wing foiling. This one tested us 😅 We took on the steep and slippery climb up Isabel de Torres in Puerto Plata—and it was no joke. Muddy trails, sketchy footing, and a serious leg burn… but the view at the top made every step worth it. Sitting above the city with a mini botanical garden and that iconic statue, it’s one of the most rewarding hikes we’ve done in the Dominican Republic. We made it down just before sunset and headed into historic downtown Puerto Plata for dinner, soaking in the colorful streets as well as umbrellas and local vibes. Back in Luperón, the adventure didn’t stop. We explored Playa Chiquita with unique wooden sculptures, and hiked out to a hidden blowhole and coastal cliffs—one of those wild, off-the-beaten-path spots we love. Then it was time to check out of Luperón… and get ready for what’s next. Boat life isn’t always turquoise water and smooth sailing… sometimes it’s project after project 😅 In this episode, we tackle a long list of upgrades and repairs—finishing our epoxy countertop, varnishing the fridge top and installing a new gasket, making new dinghy cushions, repairing our headsail, cleaning the heat exchanger, and even bringing our water pump in to get fixed. But it’s not all work. We take breaks to enjoy life in Luperón—horseback riding along Playa Grande, swimming at Playa Chiquita, exploring local restaurants, and celebrating Christmas with friends 🎄 And the best surprise? After two months away visiting family in Canada, we finally return to our sailboat in Luperón, Dominican Republic. Leaving your boat unattended in the tropics is always a gamble, so we were relieved to find her looking surprisingly good when we arrived back. Of course, boat life means there’s always something to do. We start the process of bringing the boat back to life with a good clean and a few projects. One of the bigger ones in this episode is transforming our worn countertop by sanding it down and creating a beach-inspired epoxy finish. Coral and Kai are entertaining each others a lot more which makes it all easier. But life in Luperón isn’t just about boat work. This cruiser town has a unique community vibe. We enjoy local restaurants, movie nights with other sailors, and shopping for fresh local food around town. It feels good to be back aboard and settling into Caribbean cruising life again. After months in the Caribbean, we head back to Canada for some much-needed family time and a full taste of fall and winter. Our trip starts in La Beauce, where we spend time with Mamie surrounded by incredible fall colours. The kids soak up the crisp autumn air while we enjoy quiet family moments before winter arrives. Next we drive toward the Gatineau region to visit Nana. Along the way we explore beautiful hiking trails and make a stop at the incredible Parc Omega, where you can drive through the park safari-style and see animals up close from the car. Watching the wildlife wander right up to us was an unforgettable experience which Coral and Kai absolutely loved. But the biggest moment comes when winter finally arrives in La Beauce. At just two years old, Kai experiences snow for the very first time, true boat kid. From sledding and snow angels to riding a Ski-Doo and warming up around a campfire in the snow, it’s the full Canadian winter experience. After months of sailing in the tropics, trading palm trees for snowbanks made for some unforgettable family memories. Filmed Fall 2025.
