It's all over...... ....At least for Season 5 anyway. Welkin is one of the last remaining small boats on the mooring and with only 2 days to go before Novemeber and a strom incoming we get her onto the trailer and safely home to the boatyard. With the dark mornings starting to draw in now, we decide to wait for the club launch to drop us off to Welkin. Plenty of time next season to learn how to sail in the dark!!! We set of with a brisk SW wind and head into our first proper Spring tide. Wind with tide on the last of the Flood means we have a lovely flat sail that takes us up to Carmel Head in a whisper. We have a "Ferrari" sail back with the ebb, sailing up to 6.4kts at one stage. however with a growing wind over a growing tide now we need to keep our wits about us as we sail home. With the weather being so bad the past few weeks we decide to take advatnage of a small break in the weather and have a quick day sail. Our plans are disrupted though as the wind rears up unexpectedly and creates some very big swells. These swells turn into waves so we run for cover quickly!! Today is our first spring tide!! Yikes, but the wind is really low so we should be able to feel the tides without too much fuss.....hopefully. We have a super sail and get up to all kinds of things today. Rescuing things out of the water, sailing, motoring and looking at all the different boats on the water. We start the day with some smaller jobs, checking the boat and then taking a look at the mainsail slugs. I feel an idea coming on here!! Then we turn to the Simrad TP10 Autohelm and after a successful test we get that wired in permanently. We set off after a bouncy night in Llanddwyn island and see if Welkin can sail in very light airs but this time with the Genoa flying. Today with a friends help, we fit the stack pack but first we turn to some essential repairs. Namely the outboard prop that I caught in a line is being replaced due to the hub failing.
