It became unbearably hot inside the bus. The AC died, and we were dying inside. So the driver stopped where it is said to be the hottest place in Senegal to fix the problem.
We were sold a bus ride to the Gambia. it was not a fast bus. It stopped all along the suburbs picking up passengers to fill up the seats. Not the quick way to The Gambia
When you sail into Senegal, you get a visa to stay in the country for 3 months. Visa is free, and you get it at the Police du Port in Dakar. I needed to stay longer because of all the work needed done on Galopin. in order to do that, I had to exit Senegalese territory, get my passport stamped, and then go back to the police for a new 3 month visa. Nearest border, The Gambia.
My list of boat fixes is long. And there is only one place I trust in West Africa. It's here at CVD in Dakar Senegal. Pros here can do just about anything
This is the only place in West Africa to get boat work done. And I have a long "To Do" list. Good thing I'm here at CVD where I can get my boat ready for our future travels
It's great to be a handy dandy man on your boat if you can. I know my limits when it comes to boat fixes. I let the pros who know what they're doing do the jobs. Especially the hard ones. I do the finishing up
Master mechanic Arona did a complete rebuild of my Perkins 4108 diesel engine. From taking out of my boat, to his outdoor bench until it roared. Truly amazing work
I got stuck in Cabo Verde because of Covid. I stayed more than six years. Learned Kriulu, fell in love, got crazy and discovered the most incredible island country
What happened? Oh yeah, marriage, work and retirement. Time to set off for adventure sailing around Africa
Coming into Dakar, past Goree Island, where slaves were shipped. Past the busy port and anchored Chinese fishing ships. I'm almost at my destination, CVD yacht club
The last few boring hours of sailing from Casamance to Dakar, I turned on the music and dodged cargo ships
Sailing up the Gambian at night is rough. Fishermen blind you with their lazer pointers. There are nets abound and even the coast guard came at me but backed off.
Those rare moments when the elements go our way. Sailing 😊
Sailing out of the Casamance River delta means following a long channel out to sea. It is well marked by red and green buoys. The waves break around you because of the shallows that extend several miles out.
