What happens when a critical piece of your ground tackle disappears… mid-cruise? When the pin from our Kong chain gripper went overboard, we were forced to rethink everything about how we attach our anchor bridle on our catamaran. What started as a problem quickly turned into a full-on experiment. In this video, we test three different chain hook solutions—including one we never expected to trust—and put them through real-world conditions. ⚓ What we cover: --Why we abandoned our original setup --Out opinion of each chain hook we either considered or have used -- Underwater footage of the new system in action -- How it held up after 6+ weeks of anchoring -- Performance during a couple of serious blows -- The surprising solution that became our new go-to We also dive into an equally important upgrade: How we’ve changed the way we moor to mooring balls A simple but critical improvement to reduce stress on the catamaran crossbeam Why our old method made us uncomfortable (and what we do now instead) Sometimes the best upgrades don’t come from planning—they come from necessity. And yes… we may have replaced part of our ground tackle… with plastic. 👇 Let us know what you’re using for your bridle setup—especially if you’ve tested alternatives! #SailingLife #Catamaran #Anchoring #Liveaboard #CruisingLife #SailingGear #BoatLife #WhileOne
How NOT to Retire Early & Goal Cruising Everyone talks about retiring early. But almost nobody talks about what comes after — or how hard it can be to actually make the decision to step away. In this video I talk about something I call “goal cruising” — the period where you’ve achieved financial independence, but the next destination isn’t obvious. I share what I’ve learned about goals, motivation, the realities of financial independence, and how your relationship with work changes once you no longer need a job. I also talk about something people don’t often discuss: how surprisingly difficult it was both to decide to retire and then to actually follow through and do it. And I answer one of the questions I get all the time: Do I regret leaving Apple when I did? Along the way we talk about: Why retiring early isn’t always what people expect The challenge of deciding when “enough” is actually enough The psychology behind stepping away from a career What I’ve learned about the employee/employer relationship How goals evolve once survival is no longer the priority Why drifting without direction can happen even after success This video isn’t really about retirement. It’s about purpose, freedom, and figuring out what comes next.
We left George Town headed for one of the Exumas’ must-see natural wonders — the famous Natural Lazy River. But before we even made it there, we had one of those wild Bahamas moments… A massive ray gliding through the shallow, crystal-clear water right beside us. Close enough to stop you mid-sentence. After that unforgettable start, we drifted the Natural Lazy River — floating through turquoise current that feels almost too perfect to be real. We wrapped up the day on a stunning sandbar with endless views and barely another soul around. This is why we sail the Bahamas. If you’re visiting George Town or cruising the Exumas by boat, this day trip absolutely belongs on your list. ⛵️ George Town, Exumas 🌊 Natural Lazy River 🏝️ Sandbar stop 🐟 Giant ray encounter Subscribe and follow along as we keep exploring the Bahamas aboard While One. #Exumas #GeorgeTownBahamas #BahamasSailing #WhileOne #CruisingLife #SailingCouple #IslandLife #Sandbar #CaribbeanAdventure
We finally flew our Ullman Code 0 for the first time — and what better place than the Bahamas Bank? ⛵️💙 Gliding toward Lee Stocking Island in light wind, over some very skinny turquoise water, this was one of those magic sailing days where everything just works. The boat felt alive, the sail pulled beautifully, and the depth sounder definitely had our attention. Light air sailing, shallow water, and that unreal Exumas blue — this is why we cruise. #BahamasSailing #Code0 #UllmanSails #LeeStockingIsland #SailingLife #WhileOne
Exumas sailing hits different. Great Harbour Cay ➝ Norman’s Cay One very close cruise ship encounter near CocoCay 👀 A couple dreamy nights at Hoffman’s Cay And miles of “this is why we sail” days ⛵️
After Hospital Delays, Cold Weather, and Missed Windows, we finally point the bow south… after hospital delays, cold snaps, and way too much staring at weather models. ❄️⛵️ This leg takes us from York River Yacht Haven in Gloucester, VA down to Wrightsville Beach, NC, with all the nerves that come from leaving the Chesapeake and thinking very hard about Cape Hatteras. From missed weather windows to second-guessing every decision, this is one of those passages where the mental game is just as intense as the sailing. Will the weather cooperate? Will Hatteras behave? Will we ever stop refreshing Windy? Spoiler: we leave anyway. If you’ve ever delayed a departure “just one more day,” worried about rounding a cape, or wondered why sailors talk about weather like it’s a personal enemy — this one’s for you. #ColdWeatherSailing #SailingAnxiety #ChesapeakeBay #CapeHatteras
Join us on an unforgettable boat journey as we sail south and encounter an incredible experience with dolphins swimming right up to our Nautitech 46 Open sailing catamaran. We were sailing in the beautiful waters near Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout, taking in the stunning scenery and enjoying the thrill of being out on the open water, when suddenly we were surrounded by these intelligent and playful creatures. As we were while one sailing, we couldn't believe our eyes as the dolphins started to swim alongside our boat, their dorsal fins glinting in the sunlight. This amazing marine life encounter is a must-see for anyone who loves sailing and the ocean, and we feel lucky to have experienced it on our sailing catamaran. The dolphins seemed to be enjoying themselves just as much as we were, leaping and splashing in the waves as we sailed along. It was truly a magical moment, and one that we will never forget from our boat journey.

Happiness is ending a cruising season! Part 1 of 2 Ahoy, landlubbers and fellow wanderers! After months of sun, sails, and surprise squalls, our cruising season aboard our Nautitech 46 Open catamaran has come to a dramatic (okay, mildly tearful) end. 😢⛵ In this episode, we don’t dodge a storm, fix a broken pump, or anchor in paradise — shocking, we know. Instead, we gracefully (read: awkwardly) transition from floating to... functioning on land. The sea is calling, but so is variety, and apparently, our attention span has the range of a squirrel on espresso. Join us as we reflect on the highs, lows, and mid-sail snack shortages of our journey — and share what’s next for this cruising couple who apparently can’t sit still for too long. Is it van life? A log cabin? Goat yoga? Who knows. But one thing’s for sure: change is our only consistent crewmember. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe — or just come for the boat bloopers and stay for the mild identity crisis. #SailingLife #CruisingCouple #Nautitech46Open #WeNeedVariety #SeaYouSoon 00:00 Introduction 03:02 Getting ready to leave Beaufort, NC 04:50 Cape Lookout 06:06 Where's the wind?! 08:44 There's the wind! This video takes us back to January of 2024 and shows just a piece of what life in Georgetown on a sailboat is like. Sherine and I spent our birthdays there this year and there's many great restaurants we found worth of our celebration. We had the goal to make it down to the Ragged Islands but, unfortunately, the weather systems were frequent and not spaced out enough. We learned that there's little refuge from W and NW winds should a storm come. Furthermore, we also heard that the Ragged Islands were very crowded with too many boats jockeying for two few anchorages....maybe this years. So, we ended up spending a bunch of time in Georgetown and ultimately used it as a "jumping off" point for several of our visitors. We did find the time to take a trip to Long Island between storms and we're so glad we did. Long Island is quiet and a bit sleepy but it has a ton of stuff to do and go see. We saw the Columbus Monument, a Blue Hole and the largest sharks I've seen to date in the Bahamas. Long Island has great provisioning and, in fact, we were able to find some items there which were out of stock in Georgetown.
