#sailingfamily #familyvlog #sailingaroundtheworld #familytravelvlog #boatlife #bucketlist #lifestyle #travel #sailboat Things Escalated Quickly in the Namib Desert…(and an unexpected visitor) This might be our funniest episode yet! In this episode we explore the incredible coastal town of Walvis Bay, Namibia, where adventure meets wildlife and unforgettable moments. We kick things off with pure adrenaline as we sandboard and quad bike down the massive Dune 7, one of the tallest dunes in the region. The speed, the wipeouts, and the laughs make this one of the most fun days we’ve had on our journey! Next, we visit Namibia’s famous Walvis Bay Pink Lake, a surreal bright-pink lagoon that looks like something from another planet. From there we head to the charming coastal town of Swakopmund for more exploration along Namibia’s rugged Skeleton Coast. But the real star of the episode? A baby seal decides to hop onto the back of our catamaran and make it his temporary home! Watching him play and relax onboard was an unforgettable wildlife moment we’ll never forget. As our time in Namibia comes to an end, we also begin the final preparations for our big sailing passage across the Atlantic Ocean. Provisioning, planning, and getting the boat ready for one of the biggest legs of our journey. If you love sailing adventures, van life, travel vlogs, wildlife encounters, and crazy desert activities, you’re going to love this episode We are a suburban blended family that has raised our 3 older children and now want to travel the world. After planning and saving for the past 6 years, we are now embracing our dream of sailing around the world on our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran. Follow our journey as we Circumnavigate the Globe in 3-4 years on a budget of $4,800/month (food, communication, fuel, insurance, transportation, mooring/marina & fun). We left the USA in October 2023 and plan to visit 26 countries on 5 different continents all while worldschooling a budding teen in our off grid tiny house. 🏆 Looking for boating spreadsheets, inside info or wanna help keep the dream alive? #sailingfamily #familyvlog #sailingaroundtheworld #familytravelvlog #boatlife #bucketlist #lifestyle #travel #sailboat From Ocean to Desert: Sailing Namibia Lüderitz to Walvis Bay We arrive by sailboat in Lüderitz, Namibia and show the marina check-in process, including what it costs and what sailors can expect when clearing in at this remote and historic port on Namibia’s wild Atlantic coast. While in town, we visit the Namibia Maritime Museum, the only maritime museum in Africa, filled with incredible shipwreck history, navigation artifacts, and stories from Namibia’s rugged coastline. After exploring Lüderitz, we set sail on a 3-day offshore passage to Walvis Bay, sharing what life is really like living on a sailboat during a multi-day passage. Shannon also shows her boat life self-care routine, including microneedling her face while living aboard — because even sailors need skincare at sea! Our passage ends with an unforgettable arrival into Walvis Bay, Namibia, where we’re welcomed by amazing Namibian wildlife. Curious seals swim around the boat and pelicans soar overhead as we enter the bay after days offshore. If you enjoy sailing adventures, offshore passages, vanishing coastlines, wildlife encounters, and real life aboard a sailboat, this episode is for you. ⚓ In this episode: 00:00 Arriving in Lüderitz, Namibia 02:10 Marina check-in process & fees 05:45 Exploring Lüderitz 08:30 Namibia Maritime Museum (only one in Africa) 13:20 Preparing for our offshore passage 16:40 3-day sail to Walvis Bay 20:15 Boat life self-care routine (microneedling at sea) 24:30 Wildlife welcome: seals & pelicans in Walvis Bay 🌍 Our route: Lüderitz → Atlantic Ocean → Walvis Bay, Namibia We are a suburban blended family that has raised our 3 older children and now want to travel the world. #sailingfamily #familyvlog #sailingaroundtheworld #familytravelvlog #boatlife #bucketlist #lifestyle #travel #sailboat Unexpected Welcome & Sudden Exit | Boat Life in South Africa After 14 LONG days at sea, our sailing family finally made landfall in Richards Bay, South Africa — a huge milestone in our sailing around the world journey and ongoing circumnavigation. We were welcomed with open arms by the incredibly friendly Zululand Yacht Club, quickly feeling at home in the South African boat life. Our 28hrs ashore couldn’t have been better: a traditional South African braai, shared with fellow cruisers, travel stories, and the kind of community that makes sailing and travel so special. Just as we were settling in, things took an unexpected turn… we were asked to leave the marina, cutting our stay short and adding tension to our adventure. With little time to plan, we set sail for Durban in the dark, raising the question many sailors and travelers ask: Is South Africa really dangerous? This episode is full of firsts — our first Uber ride, exploring life ashore, and an unforgettable dinner at the Royal Natal Yacht Club alongside the Mini Globe Race sailors, reminding us why we love this lifestyle. Racing, Repairs & Ready to Sail: Our Last Week in Mauritius! Get ready to dive into real boat life as our sailing family spends our final weeks in beautiful Mauritius preparing our Leopard catamaran for one of the most intimidating passages in the Indian Ocean—the powerful Agulhas Current beneath Madagascar on our route to South Africa. Rob finally gets to test out his Christmas present while giving the hull a much-needed clean, and we tackle an important upgrade: installing our new Garmin GPS puck to keep us on course for the adventure ahead. But it’s not all boat work—we make time for some unforgettable island fun! Join us as we explore the incredible Odyseeo Aquarium and feel the rush at the historic Champ de Mars Horse Race. From last-minute preparations to unforgettable experiences, this episode captures the magic, chaos, and excitement of life afloat. Come aboard! We are a suburban blended family that has raised our 3 older children and now want to travel the world. #sailingfamily #familyvlog #sailingaroundtheworld #familytravelvlog #boatlife #bucketlist #lifestyle #travel #sailboat Welcome HOME - Cocos Keeling After 5 Days at Sea… We Reach Paradise After an unforgettable 5-day sail from Christmas Island aboard our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran, we finally drop anchor in the unbelievably pristine waters of Cocos Keeling in the middle of the Indian Ocean — and the adventure begins the moment we arrive. The Australian Border Force greets us right away, getting our sailing family cleared in and ready to explore one of the most remote, untouched corners of the world. 🚤 We visit the only two inhabited islands, Home Island and West Island, soaking in the culture, the landscapes, and the quiet charm of life out here. 🤿 And then… the snorkeling. From vibrant coral gardens to the famous RIP drift snorkel, we dive into some of the most surreal underwater scenes we’ve ever experienced. 🌍 But the highlight? Meeting the incredible Mini Globe Racers — sailors pushing the limits of endurance and resilience as they circumnavigate the world in 19ft tiny boats. Their stories fueled our own dream of circumnavigation and reminded us why we love this wild boat life. If your kind of travel vlog is filled with remote islands, ocean-powered adventure, and inspiration from the world’s toughest sailors… this is your episode. Let’s dive in.
