Built-in 1929 and recently restored to her original elegance, Vida Mia has been host to intimate affairs, bustling parties, and unforgettable moments on the water for decades.

The worldly 61-foot wooden yacht has traveled the California coastline and crossed the ocean to Hawai‘i, where she currently resides at the private Waikiki Yacht Club. If her teak could speak, it would tell stories of celebrities like Louis Vuitton, Elizabeth Taylor, and the Travoltas sipping champagne in the lee of Diamond Head.

Built for luxury, the Vida Mia served her country during World War II, when she was commandeered by the Coast Guard to patrol the San Francisco Bay. She arrived in Hawai‘i after serving as an unofficial escort of the famed Transpac sailing race in 1963, although it’s said perhaps the Transpac racing fleet was really escorting her.

“Vida Mia” translates to “my life,” a term of endearment in Spanish, and is the perfect venue for a romantic evening for two or an intimate wedding, or the private charter of your choice.

Delayed with pleasure and learning about rig inspections on Catamarans.

Crossing oceans is not a human right, it costs money. If you cant afford maintenance and running costs you should not do it. Safety is important and rig inspection is a big part of the safety aspect. I have said you can cross oceans in almost anything. I still stand behind this however it should be classed for all oceans and in good condition. I could buy a bigger yacht but would not be able to keep up with running costs. So my point in this video is to show you the importance of rig inspection no matter if your boat is new or old. Big or small. There is no such a thing as my boat is built the old fashion strong way. Any boat no matters the year it built, brand, or makes it still requires maintenance and rig inspection. I'm sorry to be so brutally honest but it's the truth.

I also show you some daily stuff as normal and having waffles and taco with my friend Hanna. I'm delayed with my own rigging but there is good news!

I'm trying to sail solo around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now.

Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and been sailing ever since.

One of the heroes of this chapter of our story is Jean Gui, a French rigger from ZSpars, the manufacturer of our mast. Episode #300 - Sailing Alone Series (no.5)

Hello Friends,

This is the latest installment of my Sailing Alone Series.

On this film I sail 1100 nautical miles to New Zealand from Fiji after a full season in the islands of the South Pacific. This was easily the most challenging passage I have had since leaving Hawaii with conditions being either extremely calm or heavy weather. I was faced with days of being becalmed then days of 30+ knots of wind and rain and then back to being becalmed. This went on for the entire 15 day passage.

My engine only lasted long enough to get me outside the reefs of Fiji and after I shut it off it never restarted again. I ended up rebuilding it in Opua, New Zealand.
