Season 7 : Episode #155 : Taking on Crew and Dropping a Lunch Hook

Hello Friends,

On this episode we leave Cabrillo Harbor Anchorage after a fun but rolly stay and head over to the Isthmus to pick up our dear friends Dyer and Kristen of The Black Lotus who will join us for the sail back home.

After picking them up from the fuel dock we motored over behind Blue Cavern Point, The Northwesterlies were blowing between 12-15 knots and Camille had noticed how calm it was behind the point. We wanted to drop a "Lunch Hook" so Camille could teach Kristen how to snorkel in a calm place.

We had a lovely few hours at Crane Point and will for sure be back to this spot for some scuba diving in the future!

Now 9 months into our 3rd hardstand stay with our "new" or "barely used" Leopard 45 catamaran, the crew sat down to have a chat about what's been going on, our opinions about warranty processes and thoughts on how boat builders and brokers could do better.

This is Part 1 of 3, and covers a few updates that have happened since our recent Leopard 45 boat tour video https://youtu.be/jI6W7F216tg. We then explain our current feelings towards Robertson & Caine as boat builder and Leopard Catamarans as a yacht broker. We discuss opinions on some things we think are going wrong, what's been done right and how they may be able to improve moving forward.

The opinions expressed are based on our research, industry insights, extensive experience on other owners newer Leopard Catamaran and life experiences after two and a half years of owning a yacht that's had extensive and ongoing warranty repairs. If you disagree or want to add something, share it in the comments - we're always open to new information and hearing the experiences of others.

This series will cover opinions on Fountaine Pajot, Lagoon and other similar yacht builders and clear up some misinterpretation we see and hear viewers having. We have heard some people have bought a Lagoon instead of a Leopard which was never our intention.

This week's been short trips off the boat to try and cling to our sanity mixed with days of checking, working and testing. The chain and anchor are the sort of unlucky issue that you expect as a live aboard cruiser but not what we needed after everything we've been through. Still, we are trying to remain positive, forcing ourselves to try and enjoy whats left of the short cruising season (without a finished boat) while dealing with these issues.

Season 7 : Episode #146 : Catalina Island BY SEA (part 2)

Hello Friends,

This weeks episode is broken up into TWO parts. The First Part is Camille and Mister Steady's hike on the Trans-Catalina Trail from Little Harbor to the Isthmus. The Second Part is James' slow sail from Little Harbor to Catalina Harbor. (Part 1: https://youtu.be/ceJmXt_fIjE )

On Part 2 James departs the very rolly anchorage of Little harbor and enjoys a nice slow sail flying the 150 gennaker sailing at between 1 and 2 knots in the light breeze. The distance between the harbors is only 3 nm so after a mellow sail James found a spot to drop the hook at Catalina Harbor and waited for Camille and Mister Steady's Arrival!

Sailing is the ultimate mode of sustainable travel and he wants to supply bluewater cruising yachts that keep their side of the bargain. This catamaran is 60% recycled aluminium, decks are PEFC-certified cork, headlinings are recycled PET, fabrics are recycled. The result? The Vaan R5 is 100% recyclable (sails excepted). It’s all electric, with batteries drip-fed by the solar panels on the cabin top and the saildrive hydro generators (with a diesel generator for back-up). The concept is clear-minded, but how does it sail? Chris Beeson finds out.

Episode #224 : Season 8 : The Hawaiian Adventures

Hello Friends,

On this weeks episode I awake under anchor at Kaneohe Bay to the lush smell of the rainforest blowing into the cabin from a light offshore breeze. After a beautiful sunrise and some morning coffee I head over to He'eia Boat Harbor to pick up Kimberly Wood ( https://linktr.ee/Saltybutterfly ) , professional photographer and all around adventurer, to join me for some exploration of Kaneohe Bay.

Our first stop was to check out the famous Sandbar at Kaneohe. The Sandbar is a large submerged "beach" or sorts that at low king tides is exposed but for most of its life it sits in 2-4 feet of water. It is a popular boating site with the locals and a very unusual experience.

We went on to explore several of the countless coral reefs that around scattered around the bay and saw a great number of fish, a spotted eagle ray, and sea turtles.

After dinner we did some night snorkeling and had some fun encounters with a schooling banner fish who kept coming around to check me out.

Episode #231 : YACHT DELIVERY CHRONICLES : The Hawaiian Adventures : Part 2

Hello Friends,

Welcome to Part 2 of the latest installment of Yacht Delivery Chronicles. On this episode Esteban and myself head to his boat at Nawiliwili Harbor from Port Allen on Kauai and prepare the boat for immediate departure.

We weren't on island for even 5 hours before we were untying the lines and pushing off into the night. Our quick turn around was due to a forecast for increasing winds within 24 hours time.

After a lumpy night crawling across the channel and me getting seasick for the first time in many moons we found ourselves off the coast of Oahu with the Triton's beta marine engine overheating. We came about and pointed in bound for Waianae Harbor. After 23 hours of passage we were finally tied up at the dock in harbor for the night.

The next day we made the push for Honolulu and had a wonderful day on the water bringing Esteban's boat to her new home port.
