Season 4 | Episode 81 | Sailing off the anchor and diving on the prop near Catalina Island

On this episode we haul up the anchor at Button Shell Beach so we can make our way to a new, hopefully friendlier, anchorage further North.

While we were fighting to haul up the 80lbs of 3/8 chain and 35lb anchor in 70 ft of water our long painter line found its way into our propeller and "Prop'ed" us leaving us with no engine, an anchor that was half way up after a hard struggle very near to the rocks.

We hoisted the sails and sailed away from land with the light breeze that was coming off the island and made our way to deeper water to finish hauling up the anchor.

Watch the episode to see Camille dive on the prop and get us back under way as we find a new incredible anchorage near Little Gibraltar.

It is not just based on our catamaran, other owners have contacted us for advice and opinions on their new boats and we've incorporated their feedback and combined this with the information from the owners groups.

Say "hello!" to Comfortably Numb, a 1984 Endurance 35 classic, solid, and dependable sailboat that is well-suited for offshore cruising and long-distance sailing.

The Endurance 35 is a classic sailboat design that was first introduced in the late 1960s by yacht designer Peter Ibold. The boat was built by a number of different manufacturers over the years, including Southern Ocean Shipyard, Cheoy Lee and the DeKleer Brothers of Vancouver, BC.

Comfortably Numb is a sturdy, full-keeled sailboat with a displacement of around 16,000 pounds, LOA of 35 feet and a beam of 10 feet, 2 inches. The boat has a traditional layout, with a large cockpit, a spacious salon, a galley, and a good sized head.

Known for its excellent sea-keeping abilities, and used for long-distance cruising and bluewater sailing, this boat has a reputation for being well-built and reliable, used by many owners for circumnavigations.
