Designed by VPLP, the Excess 14 catamaran has a forward-set rig, a square-top mainsail, and a large overlapping genoa (as standard) to optimize the sail area to displacement ratio.

The 14 features an optimized fin design, and the rudder blades have been extended. She has a direct steering system with textile lines, for a better helm feel.
Down below, she is very comfortable.

This is the 2nd “pure” design from Excess Catamarans 14, which develops the sporty philosophy of this multihull brand with plenty of comfort onboard. The Excess 14 has twin aft helms, a low boom, assymmetric hulls to reduce leeway, and deeper rudders to help sailing upwind. There are “power up” options if you order the Pulse Line.

The Excess “look” continues to evolve with reduced windage due to a lower freeboard, sporty lines, an aft-set coach-roof, a mast stepped forward, with a composite bowsprit and inverted bows.

This is a small study we have done in 2021 on monohull sailboats towards the end of the pandemic lockdown. The graphs in this video we have found to be a useful tool when analysing the boats we have seen and more than anything, recognising a good deal - all helpful when buying a sailboat on a budget in which sailing around the world would be possible! Whether we choose a centre cockpit or aft cockpit monohull remains to be seen :)

We left Sicily, Italy as we saw approaching storm. In hopes for the better shelter we sailed 245 NM to Sardinia island, Cagliari. Our initial plan was to anchor, but plans changed and we ended up in Marina Saint’Elmo during the 28th August, 2023 storm.

I was not very impressed with marina’s protection as the breakwall was quite far away and it had an exposure to the winds but it seemed as a better option being in a rolly waters and especially using dinghy in these conditions…
And and the price - it was THE most expensive marina we have ever stayed 580 Euro for 3 nights it 215 USD per night!
Very soon the storm came and it did not look pretty… Actually - It was CRAZY!!! 49 knots of wind and lots of damage done…
You have to see it yourself…

but then - storm calmed down and we were able to enjoy Cagliari city tour and some nicee company.
After we sailed North of Sardinia enjoying beautiful vistas on the way to Corsica…

I’m on my way to the Herald Cays, two tiny islands out in the Australian Coral Sea. But Reykja is wrecked. The motor of the windlass crashed. Shortly later the V-belt between the steering wheel and the hydraulic broke. Spare parts are difficult to get and take their time. But I can’t wait at anchor for ages. It would drive me mad. So I am pushing the limits and start this expedition. I will need to find solutions and improvise with the broken technique. But that's sailing.
