Season 8 : Hawaiian Adventures : Episode #212
On this weeks video I get my custom stainless steel tangs back from the fabricator here in Honolulu and dive on the boat to complete the jury repair of Triteia's broken rudder. Thanks to Sarah for handing me everything I needed and being dock support as well as filming.
The repair took a total of 3.5 hours and gave me a new found respect for old timey shipwrights. Hammering under water is very hard work and using a hand drill while scuba diving was not a skill I can say I had before this project.
Now Triteia is ready for more adventure with her frankenstein rudder!

Tips on Tuesday - Today we perform basic maintenance on the bow thruster, but we also install new Silicon Seals. This will help stop water intrusion around the bow thruster. We also install a water alarm near the bow thruster just in case of a leak. Better to know about water in the bow sooner rather than later!
I know the video is long and maybe boring for some, but it's to help people understand how to maintain the bow thruster. Hopefully you will enjoy...

Our friends tell their sailor tale about their boat getting detained in Italy. Aquarius also had some problems with the authorities in Italy, and Z Admiral and I also felt like Aquarius was targeted by the Italian Coast Guard because we were flying a foreign flag. We didn't feel comfortable being in Italy with Aquarius, not as bad an Egypt, but close. But, after hearing this sailor tale...... Well, lets just say... now I know why I felt this way while sailing in Italy. Cheers...

At this point, we find out that our friends will be cruising in Croatia in about three weeks or so.
Keeping in mind that we still have to plan carefully as Meltemi winds won’t make it easy for us going north, therefore we will take every opportunity we can to get to Athens as soon as possible.
We finally reached Athens and anchored in this superb spot. It was a treat! BUT it was quite impossible to find a place to leave the boat and dingy for a day and go explore the city. Plus we still needed fuel and water, as our water maker is currently being repaired. Therefore we decided to go to the marina - only the question is - can we find a place and visit Acropolis???

During the handover test sail, Trent and Tynan noticed water sloshing around in the engine bay of our new yacht and the bilge light going on and off.
Details include the warranty dynamic with Yanmar's representatives, Leopard and boat builders. 4JH45 engines and the install by Robertson and Caine factory on Leopard Catamarans. New owners should be aware of causes, implications to warranty, who is at fault and why.
This is just one of many events that used up the boys time in Cape Town. Warranty issues like this and having them resolved prevented them from enjoying touring South Africa during their seven months, whether it be the Leopard factory or a safari tour they never got to go on.

This video shows what went wrong with the fiberglass under the floor of our Leopard 45 catamaran, how Robertson & Caine repaired it and where else the same issue occurred later on.
We also address some of the feedback to a recent article published by Loose Cannon titled "Big Catamaran Builder Offered $250,000 as Hush Money, Unhappy Buyer Says: YouTube Sailors Refuse Deal; Demand Full Refund and To Keep Defective Boat"
Trent wanted it noted after watching this video that the floor was not just dropping but the plywood was cracking under foot periodically in various places around the hull which is obviously unacceptable.

The next morning I go on one last dive of the trip with Jimmy Shannon this time to 87ft to a sunken sailboat near Doctors Cove at Emerald Bay on Catalina Island. While Camille and Mr. Steady hike up several peaks and enjoy the amazing views!

Aftre completeing succesful sea trials and a shake down cruise we had to leave our new sailing catamaran, Maverick, in Thailand. The manufacturer has a few things to work on and then it will be shipped to Florida where we will move on to her full time.

Our last weekend in Vilnius before I had to leave for Aquarius, I left her 6 months ago in Thailand. There was some work done on Aquarius while I was away, and hoping for the best! This video shows all the paperwork required to return to return to Thailand. The flights from EU to Bangkok, and arrival in Bangkok. Hope you enjoy.
