After a solar installation at Just Catamarans in Fort Lauderdale, we drove over from Sarasota, picked up Sam from the Airport, filled with fuel, stored our car at the airport and waited for the weather window to make our way to Bimini. This was the first time Sherine is Crossing the Gulf Stream. We normally wouldn't intentionally leave at dark but since I was somewhat familiar with Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, we decided it would be ok.
Once we exited Port Everglades, Sherine went to bed. Sam went to bed about 1am and around 3:00am, I woke Sherine up to take us the rest of the way.
We had contemplated the decision to leave quite a bit, given the weather reports from Chris Parker and his team. Upon looking, studying, and looking again at the PredictWind forecasts, we decided that our passage would be ok. It turned out to be fine. Not nearly as rough as some forecasts were predicting and no significant weather.
We got in the vicinity of Bimini around 4am. Rather than navigate an unknown, unlit and poorly marked channel at night, we raised our quarantine flag, anchored and got some Z's until light.
Thanks for watching!

After a month in Bimini, several trips back to the states, we've finally had the opportunity to move on and head to the Berry Islands on While One.
Our Son, Sam, spent about 4 weeks around Christmas with us. Upon our return from visiting family and Sam returning back to the University of Arizona, it was time for us to go. This was our first solo passage as husband and wife.
The trip was about 80nm and fortunately, we had a weather window do depart on my birthday. What an awesome birthday present! We arrived after dark and the markers to get into the anchorage were all missing...a bit disconcerting at dark when you're fearful of either running aground or hitting one of them!
In this episode, we explore the island. The following weekend, we head to the western side of the island for some clearer water and a great beach.
Thanks for watching!

We sail from the Caribbean island of Saba in the Lesser Antilles in an effort to out run Hurricane Isaac. Our sails our set for Carriacou in Grenada being the first island outside of the hurricane belt.
However as with ALL sailing journeys, the wind rarely does what you want so with four days to go we hit the hyperdrive button and belt it south.
The fishing from the boat is the only thing keeping us going though as we catch three fish on our way! And one of them is the biggest and prettiest fish we've ever caught... watch to find out what fish it is! Khiara then shows us how to cook up the fish in style!

We've been asked lots of questions about who we are, where we're from, our sailing experience etc and we finally answer some of the questions you lovely people have been asking!
We are way overdue for this episode largely because we've been dreading making a video just talking about ourselves! SO, to combat this we have tried to have a little fun with it and included as many happy snaps as possible.
We hope you enjoy!

In the lead up to leaving we tried to film as much as we could but after a while we just needed to get things DONE! So we have a summary of the week prior to our departure, fixing our bowing mast (that was caused as a result of cutting our new diamond stay rigging too short), food prep, covid tests and finally the last minute jobs before our passage to Bermuda

We finally answer the big question: How much does it cost to go cruising?
We crunched the numbers from 2 years of our spending (from Jan 2018 to 1st Jan 2020) and broke down the costs of searching and buying our 1981 Tayana 42 (a blue water classic). We also detail our costs in refitting and upgrading the boat while sailing around the Caribbean.
We also go into detail on how much we spent over a 2 year period in everyday cruising costs such as our food and drink, fuel, mooring, and marina costs as well as checking into countries.
We compare our costs with some estimates from Beth Leonard (The Voyagers Handbook) and Annie Hill (Voyaging on a Small Income).
We hope that this video can help you budget for your own sailing adventure and see where most of our expenses lie.
00:47 - 2 years in review and why we waited
02:00 - How we got the numbers
02:33 - The cost of acquisition
04:22 - The cost of upgrades, refit and upkeep
08:04 - The cost of living
11:31 - The cost of cruising
13:33 - Total of all expenses while cruising
14:02 - How did we measure up?

Finally the weather started cooperating and we had a good weather window for crossing the Atlantic to Horta in Azores!
After 2 days however, the journey deteriorated BADLY. Everything started falling apart… or OFF as the case may be. This was by far our worst sail ever as Adam and I struggled to keep calm and fix things one by one... not the best start to our crossing.

Hello fine friends,
Hope you're staying cool and safe in these wild times. I stopped by Angel City Brewery in the Arts District here in Los Angeles and picked up the Most Amazing goody bag, specially put together by my friend Leticia. In the video I go over their women brewed Strawberry Blonde, and review the Plum Saison that Angel City brewed in collaboration with the Pink Boots Society. Such a fun beer! The history of the Saison is really interesting.
Also Leticia gave me a 6er of Avocado Kolsch (AND I DRANK IT ALL TO MESELF;) ha! but I say a little bit about it in the video, and highly recommend trying it if you can get your paws on some. I say its sort of like a brown ale in the video but, it is MUCH lighter, just to be clear!
Thank you so much for watching, please leave comments and questions that you might have. Thank you again Angel City Brewery!
Love,
Camille

Ok, so here it is, the first edition of my new thing "BEERS ON A BOAT". I decided I wanted to start a beer review series so that I can try out different beers I find as we travel on our sailboat SV Triteia. Also I thought it would be a good way to meet people and share brews on other boats as well!
In future episodes I'll also be having cohosts on the show, so we can have beer and talk about it, what we liked or didn't like, and enjoy being on the water together.
On this episode I try out San Pedro Brewery's "Royal Palms" NE IPA. I choose San Pedro Brewery because its down near where we keep our boat and I wanted to start off the series staying local.
Give the video a watch to see what I think about this beer!

We will post Episode two in a few weeks time which was filmed under anchor at Little Gibraltar.

Camille

When Trent and Tynan flew to Cape Town in 2021 to do the handover of our Leopard 45 they didn't expect to end up spending 7 months there working on the yacht. One of the challenges of doing yacht work in Cape Town is finding out where the high quality, reliable or well stocked suppliers, importers and contractors are.
Information online wasn't always accurate or detailed, and word of mouth can be a little unreliable when there are personal connections and business relationships involved in such a condensed place. But in their words they managed to "crack the code" and now want to share what they learned about finding yacht suppliers, tool shops and boat related contractors in Cape Town, South Africa.
You'll find link and locations for the businesses we mentioned on our website - https://www.travelsketchsailin....g.com/yacht-supplies
*Disclaimer* This was filmed after enjoying a few Magners and Malner ciders so Trent and Tynan are fairly intoxicated.

After backpacking Asia, road tripping Europe and doing a bit of van life, we’re now exploring the world aboard our Leopard 45 catamaran. Check out our website https://www.travelsketchsailing.com/

Tasmania is bigger than many people think - by far larger than any Mediterranean island - and a challenge for sailors. Situated in the Roaring Forties, with large swells on the west coast, caution is advised. I start in Launceston, sail along the north coast, encounter penguins and flocks of birds near Stanley. Then I head west in search of jungle and traces of the first settlers at Macquarie Harbour. An expedition that also involves dodging storms and crossing the jungle.
And thanks so much for watching 🙏
