Lady Four är en Beason 33 och faktiskt den enda av sitt slag!

⚓️ Ursprungligen var hon en Beason 31 från 1979, som av sin enda ägare Christer lät byggas om från 31 till 33 fot för att breddas, förlängas och förbättras.

⚒️ Man kapade 3,5 meter av båtens akter för att skapa en ny form. Bland annat fick båten en akterspegel med badplattform, badstege och dusch. Lady Four utrustades även med en rullgenua, fast vindruta och mycket bättre stuvutrymmen.

This video is intended for maritime students taking Navigation about chartwork. It shows one of the position fixing techniques known as running fix.

Running Fix is a navigational method used to determine a vessel's position when only one line of position or LOP can be obtained at a time. This technique is commonly used when only one navigational aid is available and no other landmarks are available to take simultaneous bearings.

Dead Reckoning or DR position is an estimated position calculated based on the ship’s last known position, along with the course steered and the distance traveled over a given period.

This video shows how to calculate the ship's swing radius when she is anchored. It includes several reasons why we need to calculate and determine the ship's drag circle while at anchor.

The ship's swing radius when anchored refers to the circular area or distance around a vessel within which it can swing or rotate while anchored. When a ship drops anchor, it is subject to the forces of wind, current, and tide, causing it to pivot around its anchor point. The swing radius is the maximum distance that the vessel can swing in any direction from its anchored position without encountering obstacles or other vessels.

This episode we shake off the lines and continue our journey east towards beautiful La Parguera. Unfortunately for us 5 miles from our departure the wind picked up and our prop shaft decided to fall away from the engine!

We managed to limp our way into the bay of Boquerón, and with a little help from our friends we made it to anchor. After a few hours of work we managed to get the shaft reassembled (correctly this time!). The next morning we continued our journey with a short test run and a day later we made it to La Parguera without incident.

Meine erste Atlantiküberquerung. Ich bin allein auf der 12 Meter langen REYKJA, einer 35-jährigen Stahlyacht. Es geht von La Palma, Kanaren, direkt nach Domenica, Karibik. Die Strecke ist 2790 Seemeilen lang, mehr als 5000 Kilometer. Dafür brauche ich 24 Tage.
Ich überquere den Atlantik im Februar. Segeln im Passat ist nicht wahnsinnig schwierig, aber hat Tücken. Im Februar weht der Wind stärker als in den Monaten davor. Wenn die Wellen hoch gehen, beginnt das Schiff kräftig zu rollen. Schon Schlafen wird zu einem Abenteuer: Wo kralle ich mich fest ohne umhergeschleudert zu werden? Reisst dann noch kurz vor dem Ziel die Genua, das grösste Segel, ist man als Alleinsegler plötzlich ganz schön einsam.
Mein Fazit aus knapp vier Wochen allein segeln? Echt stark!

As the days pass, it is quite nice to have some uneventful 'ordinary' days. Granted, these days are never truly ordinary and there is always something going on. However, being able to 'just be' in the moment, taking care of routine tasks, and going as I please is more than I could ever ask for. And this week was it.
