Episode 004 : Season 1 : YARNS; Conversations with Cruisers, A Sailing Podcast
James Frederick sits down with sailors he meets around the world to record their seas stories in remote anchorages and far-flung ports. All the interviews are recorded as a video podcast that is released on the Sailing Triteia YouTube Channel. They are also being made available as an audio podcast for those who prefer this format of content.
On this episode I interviewed Keith Hammond of SY Te Rere in Auckland and talks about his life sailing in New Zealand, The South Pacific and Beyond. This 72 year old Kiwi has a wild collection of sea stories and I managed to get a couple of them on record.
As this interview is being released Keith is currently sailing with a friend all throughout the Baltic and will head to the Med as winter sets in. Thanks to Keith for being a good friend and a source of inspiration!

Episode 04 : Santa Barbara to Monterey - with Sailor Commentary at the end of the episode.
This video documents the recent sailing trip I crewed on onboard the sailing vessel The Intrepid. We motor-sailed from San Diego, California to the San Francisco Bay area. 10 days, 111 hours at sea and 470 nautical miles. The uphill battle against wind and currents, sailing north on the west coast is no pleasure cruise.
The crew were as follows:
Tim Brill (Owner)
Cody Brill (Captain and son of Tim)
Nigel Howat (English Sailor/45+ years sailing experience)
& James Frederick (thats me).
I have a blog where you can read all the journal entries about each leg of the passage: http://allwaysbutstill.tumblr.com
I will also be uploaded each leg of the trip as "episodes" that will feature commentary at the end reading some of the journal entries and talking about what happened or what we saw on that particular part of the trip.

Episode #140 : A weekend trip to Avalon before the Pandemic Hit America
Hello Friends,
On this week's episode we head back to Los Angeles after a very quick weekend at Avalon.
As soon as we departed Avalon the wind filled in, not sure if it were simply a land breeze or not we soon realized we had been blessed with perfect winds for a speedy passage home! In all my trips to Catalina Island this was the first time I managed to sail all the way home and not have to crank up the iron genny!
This was our first trip with our "new to us" full battened mainsail and our fresh clean bottom from the haul out and it all really paid off and gave us a wonderful sail home!

| Season 3 | Episode 46
Welcome to Season 3 of my channel!
On this episode we begin the day in the isolated anchorage of Bänö surrounded by forests. Soon we are on the wind making our passage to the working harbor of Sandvik. Sailing through the archipelago with all the wind we could want (and more at times). I was sad to leave the isolation of of Bänö but happy to move on to the next adventure!
Make sure you listen to this weeks episode of A STERN VIEW PODCAST to hear us talk about this anchorage and to hear the recording get interrupted by our keel bumping on the rocks as the wind picked up forcing us to end the podcast and get underway... ( https://soundcloud.com/sailor-....james-664482657/ep-0 )
This season will follow my time on board SV Arcturus as we explore the Ã…land Islands and beyond. We sail into cities, tie up on small islands, anchor bows to and ride out a blow before heading back to Sweden. I hope you will follow along with us on the trip.
Thanks for watching and if you enjoy the content please leave a comment and like below or you can donate as little as a dollar a video if you are so inclined on our patreon page.

Navigation Station Build Out Part 6: Completion of the Nav Station
Hello Friends,
It felt the day would never come...
On this episode I finish up (mostly) hooking up the last instruments of the new nav station. I take us through the different elements of the Aft panel and talk about the KJM antenna splitter that my Digital Yacht AIS/GPS/VHF combo antenna and splits the signal between my ICOM VHF radio, Digital Yacht iAis receiver and my new JBL stereo.
here is a link to the Combo Antenna I mentioned in the video ( https://youtu.be/OXOBssKPEWg )
Once we get everything hooked up finally get to see the panels all of their glory with lights on and switches switched.
A week or so after this video I got a 9' long Sea talk cable in so now everything is hooked up and working on the panels.
As I mentioned in the video I will be doing a follow up video going through each piece, showing you the cost and when I purchased it.
I also have a special video just about the NMEA 0183 system I will be editing and uploading sometime soon.
Thanks to our patrons for your support and I hope y'all didn't get too bored with the DIY REFIT series. We will be getting back to our adventure videos next with a trip me and Camille and her dog Mr. Steady took to Catalina for New Years Eve.

On this episode I do a dry fit of the new holding tank I am installation on my 1965 Alberg 30. I then move on to cutting out bases for the Y-Valves and finally cut an access hole in the top of my holding tank.
I make my project videos on the slow side letting people see what I did and how I dealt with obstacles, in past videos my viewers have thanked me for not jumping over all of the details and getting right to the finished project so while this might not be the most exciting video it might help some people out there see how I dealt with certain aspects of the project.
Thanks for watching!

Episode #161 : Sailing Dreams : SET THE STEP
Hello Friends,
On this weeks episode we show you a few of the steps we took to making the the new mast step, as I have mentioned in other episodes in this series, we did not film this in my typical "how to" style as we were had to complete this entire project in 5 days time including pulling and stepping the mast, which only gave me 3 days to actually cut out the old, build and install the new step.
I got the step sealed in 2 coats of epoxy resin followed by 2 laters of mat glass on the bottom and 4 layers of glass on the top. The step was adhered below with thickened epoxy and tabbed onto the hull with the top 4 layers.
I also over drilled holes where the lag screws would go to fasten down he mast step and filled them with thickened epoxy before adding the 4 layers of glass. This gave us impenetrable sleeves for the lag screws to live in preventing water ingress in the future when or if the sealant breaks down, which is what I am certain was the cause of the original mast step failure.

Episode #270 : Season 9 : The South Pacific
On this episode we make way for the leeward islands, bound for Huahine. I had to cut our Moorea visit short due to some approaching storms so we had a great overnight sail to Fare Harbor and got in and settled the day before the weeks worth of storms arrived.

Navigation Station build out part 2:
Hello Friends,
On this episode we are back onboard Triteia getting everything started on the big rewire and installation of the new Navigation Station.
Last week we looked at certain aspects of building the custom panels and now its time to unwire the old switch panel, label everything and get all the wires out of the way. After the old chaos was dealt with we dry fit the panels and get everything fastened down.
In the next episode we wire up the AC system from the shore power inlet to the switch, battery charger and 120v socket.

Episode 387 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia
Hello Friends,
On this episode we say goodbye to Middle Island in the Percy Group and have a nice mellow sail to Digby Island where we find a strange shipwreck on the beach and head a shore to check it out!
This anchorage had be labeled as very rolly and uncomfortable in the cruising guide but we found it to be a great place to spend a night as we continued our north bound cruise up the east coast of Australia.

(UPDATE: SAM MADE IT SAFE AND SOUND TO HILO!)
Hello Friends!
This is a special episode where I interview my friend and marina neighbor Sam Holmes who, by the time this was uploaded, departed for Hawaii in his Ranger 23 named "Swedish Fish"
Our regular viewers will remember him from the episode where Camille and myself sailed to Santa Barbara Island ( https://youtu.be/bKYkneYs0z0 )
Since then Sam has outfitted his tiny 23ft sailboat for passage making including adding a wind vane steering system, solar power and more.
The day before Sam left I sat down with him onboard SV Swedish Fish and interviewed him about the trip and his preparations. Sam is a true maniac and I have full faith that he will make it to Hawaii with many stories to tell about the passage.
You can watch his progress at: https://share.garmin.com/SamHolmes
He told me off camera he will be filming the passage and after its all done giving the footage to a professional editor he knows to edit it into a long video or episodes. His youtube channel is there:

| Season 3 | Episode 52
On this episode we leave Vaxholm and make the final push for me to Stockholm. A casual few hours of motoring, we made our way through the busy waterways that lead you into Stockholm's center and pulled into Wasahamnen Marina.
After getting the boat all tied up I went exploring the docks and the beautiful lightship before finally visiting the incredible VASA museum.
The VASA was one of the largest sailing ships ever made at its time and its attempt at size was its undoing as she sank less than a mile from where she weighed anchor. Now show sits in the museum for all of us to see her beautiful hull and details. https://www.vasamuseet.se/en
Not long after that I was carrying my bags off of Arcturus and stepping off of her deck for the last time. It was a wild trip and I am grateful for having the opportunity to sailing in such magical place. I hope to find myself back in Ã…land one day on my own boat.

| Season 3 | Episode 48
Welcome to Season 3 of my channel!
On this episode we lave Sandivk just after midnight racing the next "wind event" that is scheduled for the next morning at 11am, bringing 35+ knots along with it once again.
I enjoyed a beautiful night at the helm and finally got to experience the the sun never fully setting. It was like a prolonged sunset that turned into a sunrise and by 3:30am it was bright and crisp.
Neil had seen "Bjökör on Navionics and asked the guys at the market about it in Sandvik and no one seemed to know about it. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find it was a nature preserve, had a south facing harbor and only one spot to tie a boat up to the dock, which thankfully was empty.
This season will follow my time on board SV Arcturus as we explore the Ã…land Islands and beyond. We sail into cities, tie up on small islands, anchor bows to and ride out a blow before heading back to Sweden. I hope you will follow along with us on the trip.

Hello Friends,
On this episode (Part 3) we finish laminating and trimming the alcohol stove enclosure for the boat. This is a slow process that takes days as you can only laminate one piece at a time, wait at least 24 hours then trim it off and do the next piece.
We finally get to the point of cutting the bottom/transition/back of the interior space of the enclosure. This required a very precise cut and good team work when it came time to set the piece in place coated with contact cement.
In the next video we will get all of the teak trim cut to size and mounted then we will be ready to take it to the boat, screw it in and make some tea on the new gimbaled stove!

Season 7 : Episode #167 : The Breezy Anchorage of Johnson's Lee
Hello Friends,
On this episode we start the day after a very blustery night on the hook at Johnson's Lee on Santa Rosa Islands southern coast. After surveying the shore for a suitable place to land and finding no such place we returned to the boat just in time before the winds picked up.
Finding ourselves not trusting the wind we busied ourselves onboard. Camille prepared 3 jars of fermented veggies and explains how to make Kimchi and Sauerkraut.
Soon the winds increased and we watched our dinghy sailing in the air like a kite as we yawled on the anchor.
