Hi we are Jo& Timo, an English Italian couple sailing around the world on our recently converted ex Vendée Globe Open 66 with our son Nemo and puppy Solo. One of the big modifications we made during our big refit was to add a new third forstay. Forstays are part of the rigging that run from the top of the mast to the bow of the boat. They are used to support both the mast as well as the headsails which are attached to them. We already had 2 forestays but wanted one more to give us more easily a larger range of sail configurations and also because it adds an extra support for the mast. 00:48 - Taking mast down 01:25 - Making new holes in our mast 03:45 - Painting the mast 04:05 - Putting the mast back up 04:50 - Attaching the top of the new forestay to the mast 06:13 - Attaching the new running backstays to the mast 07:09 - Making the chain plates 10:13 - Attaching the bottom of the new forestay to the boat 13:02 - Attaching the tuff luff onto the new forestay 13:19 - Making the new running backstays 14:47 - Hoisting a headsail on the new forestay 15:47 - Sailing with 3 headsails If you enjoyed this video please consider supporting us on Patreon https://patreon.com/sailingnv or with a one-off donation via https://ko-fi.com/sailingnv or paypal https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/sailingnv #sailingnv #sailing #Open60 #refit #rigging #raceboat #forestay #boatlife #sailingvlog #boatwork #carbon #boatrepair #backstay
