The wind and waves made it clear that rounding Cape Hatteras would have been anything but kind, so we slipped into the ICW at Beaufort, North Carolina instead. The days that followed were cooler than usual, with more rain than we cared for, but just before entering the Alligator Canal we were gifted one perfect, peaceful night at anchor.
