In der Schiffsübergabe wird das Schiff und dessen Betrieb für ein paar Tage an die Schüler übergeben. Die Schüler nehmen dabei alle verantwortungsvollen Positionen wie Kapitän, Wachführer, Wachführerassistent, Bootsmann, Maschinist und Projektleitung ein. Die Stammbesatzung tritt während dieser Zeit in den Hintergrund und greift nur in Notfällen ein.
