In the morning I had noticed that she was looking a bit low in the water and following a quick look through the binoculars, it became evident that she was sinking. We turned on the VHF and did a broadcast on channel 72 which is monitored by the other yachts in Linton Bay. The first thing we had to find out was if anyone knew who the owner of ‘Faith’ is. It was evident that ‘Faith’ was unoccupied and no-one had details of the owner. I went to ‘Faith’ on the dinghy and was met by numerous other sailors turning up to help. Buckets, manual pumps, solar panels connected to car batteries and electric pumps were all being used. It took a while to empty out the incredible amount of water that had entered the boat and it was so nice that someone arrived with ice cold beers for everyone at the end. There are currently 4 wrecks in Linton Bay that are either completely or semi-submerged. Not only do they provide a navigational hazard, they are also obviously really bad for the environment, and are a real eyesore. It turned out that ‘Faith’ is owned by a local and they posted a message of thanks on Facebook when they heard what had happened.
