World Oceans Day takes place every 8th of June. It is a unique opportunity to celebrate the ocean, our connections and make a real difference. Together with an international team and the help of Biologist, Scientist, Olympic Sailors, Champion Bodyboarder, Adventurer, Model we want to transmit our passion for this cause and our belief that, step by step, we will make a real difference. The result is a short interview with captivating characters – Simon Nessman, founder and director of Cedar Coast but also Biologist – Mariasole, ocean conversationist – Alex Bellini, Italian explorer and adventurer – Francesca Clapcich, Italian sailor and world Champion – Andrea Fornaro, Olympic Sailor – Gotzon Mantuliz, Spanish natural adventurer – Joana Schenker, professional Bodyboard Athlete who became world champion – Dee Caffari, professional sailor that have sailed solo and nonstop around the world in both directions – Alena Blohm, international model and York Hovest, eco-activist and passionate photographer. All fascinated about the ocean and finding solutions. Every breath you take and every drop of water you drink comes from the sea. The ocean generates 50% of the oxygen we breathe, regulates the climate and is an essential source of food, energy and life. We produce nearly 300 million tons of plastic every year, half of which is single-use. We have developed a “disposable” lifestyle. Estimates are that around 50% of plastic is used just once and thrown away. Annually approximately 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide. More than one million bags are used every minute. It is estimated that 8 million tons of plastic pollute the Ocean each year – that’s a truck full of plastic produced every minute. We cannot deny that something is changing. If we continue this way, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish (in weight). But, today, help protect the ocean for the future. It’s. up to each one of us to help ensure that our ocean is healthy for future generations: - Change perspective: encourage individuals to think about what the ocean means to them - Learn: Discover how daily actions affect them and how we are all interconnected - Change our ways: Make small modifications to your everyday habits for a better blue planet - Celebrate: Participate in any activities that celebrate our ocean (beach cleaning, workshop….) Speak up for the planet! We have to protect the ocean as protecting oceans means protecting life. What about you? Happy World Ocean Day!
