When INEOS Britannia decided to adopt the Bay of Palma as their winter training base, today was the kind of the day that everyone had pictured in their mind’s-eye. Sunny with barely a cloud in the sky, a solid 12-13 knots and Barcelona-type waves that could almost have been imported from the 37th America’s Cup venue. It was perfect, and the sailing team looked remarkably calm and collected for this thoroughly entertaining all-afternoon training session that had it all. Giles Scott and Ben Cornish once again shared the helming duties aided by Bleddyn Mon and Leigh MacMillan who had T6 flying with absolute ease, showcasing some terrific control across a full range of sea states. Giles Scott reminded everyone just what T6 is all about when he said afterwards: “We're trying to push each day, and every day we go out we’re able to push that little bit harder. There’s still little bits and bobs we're trying to debug but we’re trying to get into feeding back and getting that good data into the design team. That's the primary reason that we've got this boat and we need to start providing that information.” Section 41. Reconnaissance a) As a campaign cost reduction measure, COR/D has mutually agreed to cooperatively implement a centralised reconnaissance programme for all teams for the reconnaissance of all Competitors’ AC75 Yachts, AC40 Yachts and LEQ12 yachts including both on-land and on-water imagery (the “Joint Recon Programme”). b) Each team is assigned a two-person Recon Unit to follow their every on-water move, but it's not that simple. The cameras are supplied and identical for all Recon Units. Drones are not allowed, and they can't get that close, plus following a boat and keeping a camera steady at 45 knots isn't that easy to begin with. c) A three minute interview follows each on water day, and teams must answer the Recon Unit's questions while trying not to give too much away. It's a raw, unedited view of the never before seen behind-the-scenes development of a team and their boat to win the oldest trophy in international sports. #AC37Recon #AmericasCup #Barcelona2024
