Day 2 - La Course Des Caps - Onboard Malizia - Seaexplorer

After sailing down the English coast yesterday on a downwind stretch, making the most of the wind zones and currents, the eleven crews of La Course des Caps hit a noticeable, though thankfully brief, slowdown early last night. The fleet found itself stuck in a transition zone between two weather systems, marked by a barometric col between Start Point and Lizard. Once clear of this patch, they picked up a northerly, then north-westerly breeze, rounding the Isles of Scilly from the south. The boats are now heading towards the legendary Fastnet Rock, which they’re expected to round early tomorrow morning as the wind continues to build. In terms of rankings, while the fleet remains tightly packed with less than 35 nautical miles between first and last, everything is still to play for. With the group still so close and the wind gradually strengthening, the race promises to stay intense and tactical right up to the Fastnet, before the long leg north towards the Shetlands, where fresh strategic challenges await.
