Day 1 Fleet Racing - Strong start for Katusha at the RC44 Valletta Cup

The speed and angle of the wind as well as those of the boat are the principal tools in each teams' tactical arsenal. The role of the tactician is to judge the conditions, and hunt down every advantage on the course, any little shift or gust that will help them make gains. For the opening day of fleet racing, conditions were brisk with gusts over 20 knots and choppy seas. It was Katusha who took the control of the first race. Opting to play the favoured right side, they kept control of the fleet during the entire race, taking the first gun to open their account in style. Alexander Novoselov’s Russian team followed this up with another win, but then a 9th place, dropping them to second overall, tied on points with Team Ceeref. The final race as won by Igor Lah’s Team Ceeref, the present leader of the RC44 fleet racing championship. But it was Artemis Racing which was the most consistent of the day minimizing risks to score 3, 3, 2 and take the lead overall.
