In part thirteen of this series I make the daggerboard for my wooden Snipe class sailboat. I make it from 3/8" (9.9mm) 6061-T6 aluminum plate. I shape it using saws, files, an electric planer, grinder and flap disk, and sander. I show how to wet sand the aluminum up to a 2000 grit finish and buff or polish it to a near mirror finish. Then I laminate a handle from black walnut and attach it to the aluminum dagger board using aluminum and brass pins. These pins are epoxied in place and make a nice inlay in the wooden handle. Finally I show how to cut holes in the buoyancy compartment bulkheads to install watertight inspection ports or hatches.
