LEAVE YOUR DISABILITIES DOCKSIDE. Experience the freedom of the open sea in SPIRIT OF PILAR, a 38' replica of Ernest Hemingway's sportfish PILAR, converted by Shannon Boat Company in 2015. SPIRIT is owned and operated by Shannon River Marine Heritage Foundation, a 501 (3) (c) charitable organization, whose belief is that with the correct boats that have specially-engineered adaptive boating equipment installed, everyone, regardless of their disadvantage, can share in the joys of fishing and boating. SPIRIT is not new to therapeutic boating. SPIRIT partnered with Shake-a-Leg Miami's adaptive watersports community offering scheduled fishing and boating excursions free to veterans with physical and/or mental challenges. The program was a great success.
