BOAT YARD LIFE: We sailed 5000 miles on a broken rudder..(GULP)
We were just about to launch, when a wiggle of our rudder opened a can of worms resulting in a full dropping, weld and rebuild. The BIGGEST thank you to the amazing Mads @SailLife who guided us through this process and answered any and all the questions we had. Check his channel out to get your proper fix on boat DIY! Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn't have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit *Timestamps* 00:00 Intro 00:27 Discovering the issue 04:01 Dropping the rudder 10:16 Cutting it open 17:20 The shaft comes out 24:20 The rebuild begins #sailing #boatlife
