Bali's New 4.3 Can Convert From 4 Cabins to 3

Bali says the new 4.3 delivers big-boat features in a 43-foot package. We asked project manager Benjamin Sueur about the thinking behind Bali's new 4.3. The interior borrowed from the 5.2 and 5.8, the curved coach roof that signals where the whole range is heading, and a 48-volt electrical system that removes the generator entirely, are all part of Bali's nouvelle vague. One unique feature is its the resale design. Bali built the four-cabin version knowing most of them go into charter for five or six years and then get sold. So the 4.3 is engineered to be retrofitted into a three-cabin owner's layout afterwards. Maximum charter revenue while it earns, maximum resale appeal when it comes out. That is rare thinking from a production builder and we hope to have more coming in the future of how this works. On energy: high-output alternators producing up to 6 kW each, 12 kW combined, feeding up to 30 kWh of lithium. Solar integrated into the shape of the roof rather than bolted on, 2,300 W on the coach roof plus around 700 W on the bimini. Air conditioning that runs at 48 volts, so there's no inverter loss, and a full night at anchor with the AC on and nothing running. As Benjamin puts it, on this boat you don't need a generator at all. On the rooftop: the helm is central and in the same space as the lounge, not split off half a level down. Full shade across the whole area, a high boom so you can stand, clear forward visibility to the sails, and double access so you can circulate without climbing over the skipper or the lines. On sailing: a taller rig with roughly 70 m² of mainsail, a self-tacking jib as standard, and an optional overlapping genoa adding around 50 m². Light displacement held to about 14 tonnes. The Bali signatures are all still there: the tilting door, the solid foredeck, the forward cockpit door, and the big flybridge. Benjamin's take on the competition copying them is worth hearing.
