2021 PredictWind Girls Championship

We couldn’t ask for better weather! Actually, we could have had a touch more wind but regardless of that, the PredictWind Girls Championships at Kohimarama Yacht Club last Saturday was epic. There were over 120 sailors participating in the regatta - and not one boy to be seen. This regatta is all about the girls! It comes after the excitement of the America’s Cup and new rules in the top of the sport that include females on crews, such as SailGP, The Ocean Race, and the Olympics. There was a lot of chatter amongst very small female sailors about their chances of sailing an America’s Cup boat in the future. Their ambitions are to be taken seriously, in 15 or 20 years time.... who knows what we will see! The wind tried to play ball for the girls, but tide was ripping and the wind was dying. It created frustrating and shifty conditions for racing, but that’s yachting! The race committee did a great job in getting races off and making sure the girls had a decent regatta. The girls of Live Sail Die were so excited to be a part of it and see so many keen young women sharing their love of sailing with each other.
