► Presented to the public for the first time at the La Rochelle boat show, the Four Winns TH36 equipped with the Foil Assist system was able to make its first “official” outing, and we were on board, of course! Seen from the dock, the aft foil is visible underwater. As for the forward foil, it joins the two hulls at the midships section and also remains submerged, even at high speed. These two foils are fixed and, for the time being, at the end of the prototyping phase, are still mechanically welded and attached in a rather crude manner to bases with watertight casings, so that they can be easily replaced. The next foiling surfaces will be made of aluminum or composites. The vertical reinforcement of the forward foil may be done away with, and the overall hydrodynamics will be optimized. During our tests, the effect of the foils was felt from speeds of 15-18 knots, at which point the powercat starts to “climb”. It was clear of the water for good from 20 knots, at which speed fuel consumption was 25% lower than on the standard TH36. In terms of speed, the readings above 20 knots are those normally obtained with the two Mercury 350 hp models... except that this example was only doted with twin 300s! So, in a way, we gain 100 hp. But what we really like is the TH36's trim stability and, above all, its ability to smoothly absorb waves. From our glimpse from the dock, the 43 features a rig that is stepped further forward than on the 42, and it has an overlapping jib. The design shows a slender, sloping coachroof base that refines the superstructure. At the stern, the bulwark is cut out to ensure direct access to the quay when the catamaran is moored alongside. On deck, the 43 gains a forward cockpit compared to the 42. The helm station remains raised on the port side but is now accompanied by a U-shaped bench seat rather than a simple sunlounger. Inside, the builder has designed an ingenious modular table that can straddle the nacelle and cockpit while providing seating for 12. A large opening hatch is installed in the forward face of the nacelle, not unlike the one on the very first Bali, the 4.5. The forward volume of the hulls has been optimized to increase sleeping capacity - in the Owner’s version, the bed is installed forward and there is a proper desk, like you would have at home. The 4-cabin version offers all equivalent volumes. The renders of the 3D images were already giving the effect... but then actually on the water, here we are aboard a catamaran worthy of appearing in the next James Bond movie! The layout is 100% day charter, with an extra-large nacelle - completely open at the stern and towards the bow-rider thanks to a glass door, which can remain open in fair weather. Modular seating throughout, an off-center helm station to starboard and... that’s enough. Each hull is nonetheless fitted with a double berth, plenty of storage space and a heads compartment. The one-off composite construction by Chantier Hervé (no need to introduce them in La Rochelle!), these stripped-down layouts and the absence of a hydraulic platform ultimately translate into a displacement of just 11.5 tons. The twin FPT motors, each rated at 500 HP, have little trouble propelling the Sunmare at 30 knots. On board, the Sunmare’s excellent ability to more through the and careful attention to soundproofing are particularly noteworthy. Aboard the big sistership to the Yot 36, the elegant J&J Design signature is evident in the appearance, as are the well-defended hulls, whose central tunnel provides a highly effective lift/dampening effect in bigger seas. This time, the builder has opted for a bowrider-type central circulation with a forward door, to maximize the nacelle's width and take advantage of an exterior saloon. The central living area is protected by a wraparound windshield and a T-top. This is where you'll find the helm station, of course, but also the galley and saloon, and the two symmetrical cabins are located in the hulls. The aft cockpit enjoys many modular features in the spirit of the Yot 36, with tables and bench seating transformed into sunloungers and vice versa in a matter of moments. From our glimpse from the dock, the 43 features a rig that is stepped further forward than on the 42, and it has an overlapping jib. The design shows a slender, sloping coachroof base that refines the superstructure. At the stern, the bulwark is cut out to ensure direct access to the quay when the catamaran is moored alongside. On deck, the 43 gains a forward cockpit compared to the 42. The helm station remains raised on the port side but is now accompanied by a U-shaped bench seat rather than a simple sunlounger. Inside, the builder has designed an ingenious modular table that can straddle the nacelle and cockpit while providing seating for 12. A large opening hatch is installed in the forward face of the nacelle, not unlike the one on the very first Bali, the 4.5. The forward volume of the hulls has been optimized to increase sleeping capacity - in the Owner’s version, the bed is installed forward and there is a proper desk, like you would have at home. The 4-cabin version offers all equivalent volumes. ► Presented as a previewed at the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the VisionF 82 ALU marks a step towards more environmentally-friendly luxury cruising, thanks to a large surface area of solar panels and a powerful battery bank - all capable of powering this multiyacht for 20 hours without need for generator support. It’s worth noting that the aluminum construction incorporates a recyclable material... however, this 82, announced two years ago, is not as virtuous as the collaboration with Silent Yachts would have us believe - it’s primarily powered by traditional internal combustion engines. The layout is customizable, with generous natural lighting thanks to large windows and ultra-comfortable cabins – 195 square feet (18 m²) for the Owner’s Suite. As for the aft cockpit, it can be transformed into a huge bathing platform thanks to the hydraulic platform and folding bulwarks.
