Earlier this year I was given the opportunity to attend the Superyacht Investor Conference at the Landmark Hotel in London, and to speak on the subject of YouTube in the Yachting industry. As somebody who usually avoids these kinds of events....but LOVES talking about YouTube it was a pleasure to accept, and I have to say that the organisation of the event and the subjects covered by very qualified professionals certainly changed my opinion on Conferences.
I have produced well over one hundred videos covering some of the world's finest yachts, as well as asking the question whether it is better to rent or charter, and buy new or pre-owned. This video takes a look at the best place to keep your yacht though, and specifically four of the worlds' most wonderful marina developments. From Port Vell in Barcelona to Limassol marina in Cyprus, Monaco, and the famous Porto Montenegro...her are some of the very best places to keep your yacht.
To watch the documentary video about "RAGNAR": https://youtu.be/GDaobALK6Ho As my YouTube channel grows in popularity I receive an increasing amount of enquiries from people who dream of owning a yacht. Sometimes the dreams are substantiated with the income necessary to go ahead with a purchase, sometimes not...some ask for a yacht with an ice breaking hull, some for a yacht with a swimming pool, and some for yachts that are insanely fast. But it seems that EVERYBODY wants a yacht with a helipad. This vlog shows 5 of the finest yachts with helipads.
In the competitive world of production yacht manufacture, Fairline have established a remarkably loyal client base who return time and time again to enjoy their new models. A few weeks ago I visited the Fairline Shipyards in Oundle, UK, to get a better understanding of how these yachts are built and what makes the company "tick". I came away with a far greater appreciation of the corporate culture that exists at Fairline; a company that has no doubt at all about what makes them different from everybody else.
For more details about "DreAMboat" and other yachts check out Superyacht Times' YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/superyachttimes Last week I was back in The Netherlands filming the second in a series of documentary videos about the ICON shipyard. While I was there, a tremendous amount of activity was going on around me in other shipyards in the country. Amels, Heesen, OceAnco, and Van der Valk all had significant deliveries of various kinds. Each one is exciting in it's own right, but I have to admit that the "little" BeachClub 600 being built by Van der Valk has really won my heart!
The story of Spectre is a remarkable account that demonstrates Benetti's ability to use their industrial scale production facility to create a highly customised superyacht. By listening carefully to their client Benetti employed great innovation to meet his requirements, and if there is one thing I shall take away from my visit to Benetti it is their ability to think out of the box in order to get the client what he wants.
In the hope that my videos may have inspired some of my viewers to part with their hard earned cash and purchase a yacht, this video looks at the best yacht that can be bought for under $5 million. There are thousands of yachts available for sale on the market, so it is important to first have a clear idea of how you intend to use the yacht. Of course...a good yacht broker can help you with the benefit of his experience too. david.seal@northropandjohnson.com https://www.northropandjohnson.com
Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the UK's most prolific boat builder, producing nearly 1000 units per year. In spite of the typically British weather, I enjoyed a day that shall stay in my memory for a very long time. The story of WILLIAMS is not just a story of how these jet tenders are built, but also a story of entrepreneurship at it's very best. The WILLIAMS factory was full of busy workers who clearly took great pride in their product...which is just as well since they can hardly build these boats quickly enough to fill the orders that are flooding in!
The decision whether to buy a new or a used yacht is a pleasant dilemma to face, but one that can make a big difference to your enjoyment of yacht ownership. In this video I take a look at the advantages...and disadvantages of both options. To see a wide selection of both new and pre-owned yachts for sale check out https://www.northropandjohnson.com/search/result.htm?yacht_profile_type_id=1
Deciding between buying or chartering a superyacht is a pleasant dilemma to have, but also an important decision to make. Both choices have considerable advantages, but it is good to be aware of the down-sides of both options too. This video takes a good look at the pros and cons of buying or chartering, and leaves the final decision to you. Let me know in the comments below which decision you would make, and if you have experience of either one I would love to hear from you about your experience. When you think about yacht builders in Germany, most likely brands come to mind that build enormous giga yachts that are far outside the spending power of most mortals. However, there is also a very active yacht building industry in Germany producing both power and sailing yachts that offer great value for money and are achievable to a far larger demographic. When I researched this vlog I was surprised to learn that many of these builders belong to the same Group of companies. This vlog takes a look at Hanse Group, and some of the wonderful craft that they build. And for this of you who want to know the complete, rather politically incorrect saying: Heaven is where the police are British, the lovers French, the mechanics German, the chefs Italian, and it is all organized by the Swiss. Hell is where the police are German, the lovers Swiss, the mechanics French, the chefs British, and it is all organized by the Italians.
During my recent visit to Turkey I had the opportunity to visit Numarine's remarkable production facility, where they build a wonderful range of production yachts. Join me as I tour the yard with Ali Tanir, Numarine's Brand Manager, as we take a look through the entire production process and then drive to the local marina to see a finished 32XP yacht being prepared for delivery.
With Super Yachts and Giga Yachts seeming to grow both in number and size, it is no wonder that the German yacht building industry continues to thrive. Lürssen, Abeking and Rasmussen, and Nobiskrüg all have impressive facilities and remarkable skills to construct some of the largest yachts in the world, and every year some of the world's most spectacular yachts roll out of their doors. When stylish Italian design meets a solid yacht builder with a strong sense of pride in their products, great things can happen as I witnessed in my latest visit to the Mengi Yay shipyard in Turkey. This builder has emerged from building wooden gules to wooden superyachts and are now making their mark on the yachting industry by producing this beautiful 44 meter steel and aluminium superyacht.
A special thanks in this week's vlog to SuperYacht Times for letting me use their amazing footage of 109m "Project Bravo". https://www.superyachttimes.com https://www.youtube.com/user/SuperYachtTimes 2019 promises to be a sensational year for fans of large and interesting yachts, as the world's finest shipyards excel themselves in the size and style of the vessels they deliver. ICON Yachts' 68m "Project Ragnar" is especially interesting due to her design and unique Ice Breaking propulsion. I shall be following her construction regularly on my YouTube channel. Another shipyard who I had the honour of representing recently on my channel is Benetti, who's 107m "Project FB277" is the largest they have ever launched. Meanwhile, Lürssen have turned out yet another spectacular Andrew Winch designed creation in the form of "Project TIS". I am hoping to be working on a video project with this builder soon. Just before Christmas I was in Bilgin's amazing facility in Istanbul, where they have TWO 80 meter superyachts in construction side by side. That Vlog shall be published shortly... Finally, OceAnco have produced one of the most beautifully designed yachts of it's size that I have ever seen, and I am especially grateful to SuperYacht Times for letting me use their footage to make this, my first vlog of 2019, particularly engaging. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYBODY!
My Yachts For Sale YouTube channel has always focussed on superyachts, and never on the the tenders and toys that service them...until now! For most yacht owners the choice of tender is almost as important as the choice of the yacht itself. Whether it will fit in a tender garage, can land on a beach, can be used for waterskiing are just a few factors that are taken into consideration. This video takes a look at some of the Great British Tender builders that supply endless hours of fun to thousands of yacht owners.
Most people in the yachting industry think of Benetti as being located in Viareggio, where they produce a stunning array of superyachts. Their production facility down the road in Livorno is unknown by many, but is truly breathtaking and actually towers above Viareggio in terms of the sheer scale of the operation. This video takes a look behind the doors on this amazing City of Super Yachts, and gives a glimpse at the people that make the magic happen.
If you had visited the Mengi Yay shipyard in the 1980s you would almost certainly have found them occupied in the construction of wooden gulets, and they built hundreds of them. Since then, they have evolved into an exciting yacht builder with some significant superyachts to their name, including the world's largest superyacht to be built from epoxy laminated wood. This video takes a look at how they have evolved, as I visited their facility in Tuzla, just outside Istanbul.
princessyachts.com oysteryachts.com spirityachts.com Being a Great British Yacht Builder is not only about building yachts in great quantity, although Princess certainly qualify as one of the world's most prolific production yacht builders. Spirit Yachts on the other hand produce far fewer units every year, but have created some real gems - including the wonderful white hulled sailing yacht that James Bond sails in to Venice in the film "Casino Royale". Oyster Yachts meanwhile are a very highly respected creator of some of the world's finest sailing yachts, the stuff that dreams are made of...if your dream is to sail around the world!
The Sunseeker Predator 108 is one of Sunseeker's most successful models.
