This year I was invited to be a judge for the inaugural Rossinavi Design Challenge, an Award created to encourage young designers to think of innovative new yacht designs that could be offered for sale by Rossinavi. I have to admit that I felt a weight of responsibility towards the designers who had put so much work into their projects! The Design Challenge trophy was awarded at the SeaTec Exhibition last week, and I had a film crew on hand to help me record the event and show you some of the wonderful applicants.

Recently the shipyard has gone through a turbulent patch though, so I am delighted to report that they now have new ownership, new management, and a strong sense of direction. Here is my report to you about the WIDER Shipyard!

On my latest trip to the extraordinary ICON shipyard I took a good look at the incredible 68m explorer yacht "Ragnar". The shipyard is making amazing progress, and although much of the finished cabinetry was under protective covering it was clear that the yacht will soon be ready for launch, sea trials, and then delivery to her owner!

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is the largest Boat Show on earth, but what does the biggest yacht builder do when they attend the biggest yacht Show? Lürssen attend the Show with a very clear mission statement, and they asked me to review their attendance at the Show to help communicate that statement!

When John Ordovas contacted me with some drawings of a 64' Trimaran I was intrigued. When he told me that he had assembled a small group of workers, found a production facility in Alicante, and started to BUILD the yacht my intrigue turned to an overwhelming curiosity. This is a really unique opportunity to follow the construction of a challenging yacht and also to see the development of a new brand in the yachting industry. Since then they have established themselves as top class yacht builders by successfully completing and delivering two 53 meter trimarans. Each one was built from carbon fibre composite material! Now Latitude have announced their plans to build two more superyachts from this modern and effective material, and they came to me to market them through Northrop & Johnson.
