The Fishermans Knot is a simple but effective way to join two lengths of rope together. The knot is more secure than a sheet bend under light load as you can tighten the overhand knots around the main lines which prevent the knot from coming undone before load is put on the lines. The Fishermans knot is preferred to tying a sheet bend when the rope diameters are the same.
