As the wind and waves increased it is a wet ride for the jib trimmer down to leeward on our Mumm 36 racing yacht. As the spray pounds into his face it is all eyes on the leach of the sail, making minor lots of adjustments to allow the skipper to carve through the waves while keeping the speed on. The Mumm 36 loved the breeze and when she was setup correctly with lots of mast bend in the breeze she could power through most conditions without having to put a reef in the main. Continual minor trim adjustments where needed to keep the boat in the groove and make life easy for the skipper need to be in in tune with the changes to sail the boat fast. The team at bottom up boats loved the Mumm and the fun we had while racing her as hard as we could on strangford lough and beyond.

If you've ever looked at the interactive map of MPAs (marine protected areas) created by the feds, then you already know it's as clear as mud. I tried to figure out if there were any MPA areas near me, and discovered that as far as I could tell, I was no longer allowed to go fishing in the Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, or for that matter, anywhere else between Maine and Florida. Fortunately, what the government does poorly, independent businesses often do well. Enter FishAlerts, an app that lets you see your exact position and the position of MPAs, on your phone or tablet. Let's check out how it works. The app makes it easy to see exactly what restrictions you may or may not be under, when fishing in any given location. It also includes some handy fishing data, like tides and currents and weather data. Plus it works with the whole social media thing, giving you a quick way to snap off a fish pic and zip it over to Facebook and Twitter. And just for the record, yes—you can still fish in the Chesapeake and the open Atlantic, from Maine clear on down to Florida.
At 65 feet you saw this glorious sailing catamaran arrive and has since been preparing for handover at the boat works. The answer depends on how much you want done after market. In this case the team laid 120 square of Burmese teak and installed two ONAN generators. Following the boat going to water the mast was stepped and rigging and sails are installed (this is no small feat, involving 12 people). Finally it’s time for its maiden sail for the final test! Look how beautiful this yacht is off the Gold Coast! All that’s left is handover… we can’t wait for the owner to set sail on their own adventures!
