Late in the afternoon in front of the event site crowd el Barbouchi fished nonstop literally to the final seconds, throwing cast after cast inside the harbour as he came into dock his Hobie Pro Angler 14 kayak. It had been a glassy morning on Lake Vanern and the early bite for Pike had closed down in the “honey hole” close to the Power-Pole Starting line and others struggled further afield as well. El Barbouchi however, managed to pull aboard Pike after Pike as the breeze began to enter the bays he fished. He upgraded four times while others were lucky to manage just one fish. He had caught one legal Perch as well when he pedalled over in a major act of sportsmanship to openly share the lure and techniques he had used to catch the two solid Pike he was to present to the scorer. He even stayed with those anglers and advised them a little longer before heading off to find the elusive Perch, that in the end even to the final seconds, he was never able to secure. Baginski, Gammie and Pickering too were unsuccessful in catching their four fish, which allowed another angler Jian Huang (CHN), who had been sitting In the top ten, to bustle his way into the top three. Baginski dropped back into second place, the second Canadian to take second after Kyle Moxon in 2014. The little Moroccan German a truly humble sportsman, with a, never say die attitude, Salah Eddine el Barbouchi, became the 2018 Hobie Fishing World Champion the pride of Germany, and of Europe which had finally gained its first world fishing title. A total of 188 Pike and 88 Perch were registered over the tournament for a total of 276 fish. Life on the Cobia 296: this boat has an extremely deep cockpit, the deck is level from stem to stern, and you're always ringed on all sides by tall gunwales that keep you securely inside the boat. As we begin casting I notice those tall gunwales are good for something else, too. They're at just the right height to lean up against without feeling like you could lose your balance and flip over the side, and they're lined with cushy bolsters. The down-side to those tall gunwales? More windage, a longer haul when you need to bring the catch in over the side, and you can't easily reach the water to rinse off your hands. The extra heft of the larger boat also, naturally, made it more comfortable in the waves. That's a given—when the waves are rockin' and rollin' there's no substitute for LOA and displacement—but my comfort level on the 296 went up even farther when I heard the call of nature. If you're sick and tired of box-like center console cabins that make using the head a contorted, cramped chore, just take a look at this boat's head compartment. Seriously—take a look for yourself. 🇬🇧My first REGATTA!🤩 I had the opportunity to come along on the Mare, my neighbours' boat. I wanted to experience the spirit and how it works on the water with so many boats. I saw, did, learned and felt a lot (changes and temperature, wind and what it does). It was great! I WANT MORE!😍 🇳🇱Mijn eerste REGATTA!🤩 Ik mocht mee op de Mare, de boot van mijn buren. Ik wilde dit een keer meemaken hoe het sfeertje en hoe het op het water is. Veel gezien , gedaan, geleerd en gevoeld ( verandering en temperatuur wind en wat het dan doet) Wat was dit te gek zeg! IK WIL WEER!😍
