Can a tourist keep up with a Solomon Island local? 🌴 We tried our hand at traditional coconut scraping to make some fresh coconut cream, but let’s just say we were a bit outmatched! It’s incredible to see how fast the locals can work—in the time it took us to do half a coconut, he had finished the whole batch! Such a fun way to learn about local food culture in Telina. Originally from Sturgeon Bay, you can now find Utopia in Manitowoc, Wisconsin! Dockside visitors can explore this beautifully crafted vessel, which was designed by Fred J. Peterson of Peterson Builders, Inc. in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and built in 1946. Utopia’s unique features include a steel double bottom for strength, wooden hull sides for warmth, and twin Detroit diesel engines. Visitors can marvel at her elegant lines, learn about her global circumnavigation, and appreciate the craftsmanship that has kept her sailing for decades. Utopia currently resides under the stewardship of the her new owners based in Manitowoc Wisconsin, where it continues to inspire curiosity and passion for the Great Lakes among learners of all ages.
Chinese sailor Jingkun Xu's wore his heart on his sleeve as he raced around the world. So did many of the other sailors and while everyone's story was fascinating, the fact that Jingkun has just one arm speaks no English and ran his entire campaign with barely any shore crew made his story all the more fascinating. But his journey was more than that - when he talked to the camera he did so to mark a moment in his journey, for good or for bad and you just couldn't help but get drawn into his world.
