Oliver from Sailing Phoenix is days away from sailing solo from Oregon to Hawaii — and he made a gutsy call: skip hiring a professional rigger. Instead, he trusted a seasoned, world-traveling boatbuilder to inspect his standing rigging before his Pacific crossing. In this clip, we talk about: How much boat prep really costs Why sometimes experience beats expensive inspections What it’s like prepping a sailboat (and a cat!) for offshore passage The honest realities of readying for bluewater sailing Subscribe for more sailing stories, real offshore advice, and epic journeys. In this video I show how to tie the rolling hitch, which is also called stopper hitch. We use the rolling hitch for example if we want to attach a line to another line that is tensed. For example when several boats are supposed to be towed with one single line. It is possible to shift the knot on the line in one direction and to the other direction it stops.
