A behind-the-scenes update from us at SailingBritican! We had to pivot our lifestyle when our daughter decided that land life was calling her name. Kim & Sienna are in North Carolina enjoying air con/heat, Amazon deliveries, fast food, and family. I'm continuing our Sailing Lifestyle Experiences (previously Britican Experiences) on a 50' Catamaran in the Caribbean. And Britican is up for sale. So far, everything is going well. Can we still 'Choose Life's Course' (our tagline)?! Follow us to see how the journey unfolds! #sailingbritican #lifestyleupdate #behindthescenes #sailinglife #caribbeanjourney #chooselifescourse
Boaters can take several steps to deal with Sargasso seaweed: 1. Avoid areas with large concentrations of Sargasso seaweed: Boaters can use satellite imagery and other resources to identify areas with high concentrations of seaweed and avoid them if possible. 2. Slow down and be cautious: Sargasso seaweed can be thick and difficult to navigate through, so boaters should slow down and proceed with caution when encountering it. 3. Clear the seaweed from the boat: Boaters can use a net or rake to remove seaweed from the boat, being careful not to damage the boat or the seaweed. 4. Check the engine and cooling system: Sargasso seaweed can clog the engine and cooling system, so boaters should check them regularly and clean them if necessary. 5. Dispose of the seaweed properly: Boaters should dispose of the seaweed properly, either by composting it or disposing of it in a designated area. They should not throw it back into the water, as this can spread the seaweed to other areas. 🪢 Sunday Boat Tip [13/52] 🪢 These are the apps we use to make our anchor life a little bit smoother and get a little piece of mind at night! Do you use these too or do you have other favorites that should be added to the list, let us know in the comments! 🗺️ Navionics The app which we use for navigation. When it’s time to anchor, we use it to find a good spot and as we drop the anchor the one at the helm pushes the pin button creating a marker for the anchor location. ⚓️ Anchor Pro An app which works as an anchor alarm. We use the position from the Navionics marker and type it into the Anchor Pro app. There is an error margin as we get the position at the helm and the anchor is at the bow, but it works well enough! We then put in an allowed radius depending on the amount of chain and general surroundings. The app sounds an alarm if we go outside that radius. It’s not necessary to have the Pro version, but it allows for the app to send notifications to other units if the alarm goes off. 💬 Telegram It’s an app for chats and communication. For us, we use it to communicate with the Anchor Pro app. As long as we have internet onboard we can send a message in the Telegram app to the unit running the Anchor Pro and we get an instant reply with anchor distance and bearing. We also get instant notifications if there is an alarm. 📍Marine Traffic It’s an app for watching world wide AIS targets. As long as we leave the AIS running (and we are not in a too remote place) then we can watch our boat's position on here. If sh*t were to go really bad and Linnea would for some reason leave the anchorage without us, we could in theory track and find our boat this way. Don’t forget to save this post and share it with a friends who needs to see this 🫶🏼
