The original Bluenose was launched in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, in 1921 as a working Grand Banks fishing schooner—and a racing vessel. That same year, she won the International Fishermen’s Trophy. For the next 17 years, no American or Canadian challenger managed to take it from her. She became known as the “Queen of the North Atlantic,” and her image has appeared on the Canadian dime since 1937. Then, in 1946, Bluenose struck a reef off Haiti and was lost. But the story didn’t end there. In 1963, Bluenose II was launched from Lunenburg. Remarkably, she was built at the same shipyard and by many of the same people who had worked on the original. Original designer William Roué endorsed the new vessel, and legendary Bluenose captain Angus Walters joined her maiden voyage. The project had originally been financed by Oland Brewery as a promotional vessel. In 1971, Bluenose II was gifted to the Government of Nova Scotia. #sea #sailing #ship #history

*Please Note : This video was shot towards the end of production so not everything shown in the video has been finished to Columbia Yachts usual high standard. "The Columbia Carbon 32 is a lifting keel boat so that allows us to trailer the boat home from long races - you don't have to sail it! The keel lifts vertically (through the window on the cabin roof) with a winch that drops into place on the boat so you don't have to sail with the lifting mechanism in place which saves weight."
