Let me know in the comments if you want to see more sailing footage. The art of the pre-start cross is a crucial aspect of sailing and yachting, particularly in competitive events like the Narrows Regatta 2026. In this video, we'll be focusing on the techniques and strategies involved in executing a successful pre-start cross, using our sailboat, a sigma 33 yacht, as an example. We'll be sailing on Strangford Lough, a popular spot for sailing and boating, and will be showcasing the skills required to navigate the waters and get ahead of the competition. The pre-start cross is a complex maneuver that requires a deep understanding of sailing principles, including how to sail and yacht handling, as well as knowledge of irc racing rules. Our team, Bottom Up Boats, will be sharing their expertise and experience, gained from participating in numerous sailing races, including the Narrows Regatta, to provide valuable insights and tips on how to improve your sailing skills. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or just starting out, this video will provide you with a unique perspective on the art of the pre-start cross, and will be a great addition to your sailing vlog collection. So if you're interested in learning more about sailboat racing, yacht sailing, and the Strangford Lough sailing scene, then this video is for you. We'll be covering topics such as how to sail a j109 sailboat, sigma 33 sailing techniques, and the importance of boat life and sailing etiquette. By the end of this video, you'll have a better understanding of the pre-start cross and how to apply it to your own sailing experiences. The team at bottom up boats hope you are enjoying our short clips from the 2026 racing season.

The Double Over Hand Knot is a variation on the Over Hand knot that creates a larger stopper by adding and additional loop in the main part of the knot. The larger stopper of the Double Over Hand Knot is useful for thinner lines which may slip through the cleat, pulley or eye that the rope is running through. For a full tutorial follow the link below. https://youtu.be/JJcNIHOLJVg Learning how to tie a double over hand knot only takes seconds, most sailors have most likely tied one even if they don't know what it is called. Another advantage the double over hand not has over the single is that it is more secure prior to any load being applied to it. This results in less chance of the double hand knot coming undo. The double loop of the knot also makes it easier to untie after load has been applied. The team has at bottom up boats has loads of knot video tutorials, watch to the playlist below to learn more. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMoCfFBA9IMUcOoZy5QT-o66DM8uHukkH If you want to know even more knots why not pick up a copy of the definitive book on knots. The Ashley Book of Knot has approximately 3900 different kinds, from simple hitches to “Marlinspike Seamanship.” Mr. Ashley has included almost everything there is to know about them. Precisely named and classified (some new ones for the first time officially), they can be easily found in the big index. He tells when they appeared, something about their history, and what they are good for. . https://amzn.to/3fkisle We hope you enjoyed todays video, thanks for stopping by and supporting Bottom up Boats, as an amazon associate we get commission from associated sales.
