The reefs around Turneffe Atoll are characterized by a shallow sandy area with a bunch of mixed coral heads covered in sea fans, sponges, and hard corals. Here the coral comes right up to the surface and it's ideal for getting close to marine life without the need to duck dive. The average depth where we'll spend the majority of our time is around three to ten feet. Here we have the best mix of healthy colorful coral and marine life. Aside from the clear blue water, very mild to absent currents, and vibrant scenery, one of the best things about the snorkeling Belize is that you never run out of reef of explore, they just kept going and going and going!

Living on a sailboat, we come across the authorities far more often than you might expect! In the Mediterranean we experienced the Algerian and Croatian navy (Algerian was super stressful!!), and the Italian financial police, but Trinidad is the first time we've been stopped by the coast guard. It was late at night, around midnight, when we saw their blue flashing lights come at us as we motored through the First Bocas, returning to Trinidad after months sailing up and down the Caribbean island chain. We didn't expect to see Trinidad's coast guard, but it's nice to know they're out there. 👉 SUPPORT THE STORY TELLING ⛵ Gain access to our member only area: https://www.travelsketchsailing.com/join-in 😎 Tip jar: https://buy.stripe.com/6oE8A1d9Yabj4OA9AB After backpacking Asia, road tripping Europe and doing a bit of van life, we’re now exploring the world aboard our Leopard 45 catamaran.
