Things got a little messy! 🦑💦 In this Short, we’re out on the water in the Solomon Islands trying our luck at catching squid. We quickly learned that these clever creatures have a very effective defense mechanism! Watch as we pull in a catch and end up with squid ink all over the boat (and ourselves!). It was a hilarious and messy reminder of just how much ink these guys can hold. In February 2019 we replaced our Jeanneau 379s Batida and Manhattan with two brand new Beneteau 381s. We have continued with the cocktail theme and named them Palomar and Sazerac. These new yachts are fractionally bigger in length than the Jeanneau 379’s. However the carry their chine almost all the way to the bow, consequently there is a noticeable amount of extra space both below and in the cockpit. The boats have two wheels, Raymarine Axiom Chart Plotter, Raymarine Quantum Radar, AIS and heating. In fact everything you would expect a modern yacht to have! Shortly after the start of Race 2 of the 2024 Narrow Regatta the J109 going to read was shown a clean pair of heals from a rampaging VX1 that glided by to leeward with speed. The further the VX1 punched out into the middle of the narrows the more left to right of tide she picked up, allowed her to put and and front and disappear do the the race track.
