The launch of the 34m Spirit 111: the largest single-masted wooden sailing yacht to launch in the UK since the 1930s and one of the most sustainable superyachts anywhere on the water. A hugely proud moment in Spirit Yachts' 26-year history of building quality, beautiful modern classic yachts. Find out more about the Spirit 111 and why she is so special here: http://bit.ly/2IyQDV2
The Jeanneau Velaasco 43, introduced at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, is certainly not what one usually expects to see when they hear there's a new Jeanneau in town. But this sailboat builder has proven it can come up with interesting powerboat designs, as well, and when reviewer Zuzana Prochazka goes through this boat she finds excellent use of space, and a flybridge that can be custom-configured on the spur of the moment. Find out what else Zuzana found, in this First Look Video. http://features.boats.com/boat-content/2013/12/jeanneau-velaasco-43-first-look-video/ For more boat videos, visit www.boats.com.
A staysail is a type of sail that is typically smaller than the main sail on a boat, and is attached to a stay (a wire or rope) that connects to the mast of the vessel. It can be used in a variety of wind conditions, but is particularly useful in stronger winds, when the larger main sail may be difficult to handle. In our case we’re using it because our furler is broken and we can’t use the headsail. Staysails are often used for upwind sailing, and can help to balance the boat by reducing the amount of weather helm (the tendency of the boat to turn into the wind). They can also be used in conjunction with a larger headsail or spinnaker to help control the boat’s speed and direction in varying wind conditions. Staysails are commonly found on sailing yachts and other sailing vessels, and can be made from a variety of materials, including Dacron, Kevlar, and other synthetic fibers. #staysail #sailboat #sailinglife
