Is it safe to sail in a deep canyon? Sure! If you watch the wind and weather closely, have the right equipment, and familiarize yourself with how mountainous terrain affects the wind. Also, always carry the appropriate safety gear and practice your emergency and storm skills (man overboard, hove-to, reefing, anchoring, etc.) This is me solo sailing my 2010 Precision 18 sailboat in Utah's stunning Flaming Gorge along the Green River. We snapped some great footage and use it to show new sailors how to spot a gust coming at you on the water via a discoloration in the water color. Usually it is a darker color that is moving across the water. But don't mistake that for a shadow from a cloud.
