🪢 Sunday Boat Tip [20/52] 🪢 These are the rules we have set up to feel safer on over night passages as we double hand our sailboat from point A to B. They enhance our chance to get a more peaceful sleep when you are not on watch, knowing that the other person is safe and still on the boat when you wake up. The person on watch must: 1. Wear the personal floating device at all times! 2. If needed to get up on deck, wake up the other one, and then tell when everything is done and you are safely back again. The person asleep does not need to get up, but will keep an ear out until all is done. 3. Hook the safety line to the boat when getting out of the cockpit. 4. Wake the other person up for operations like reefing the main and gybing. The person asleep must: 5. Set the alarm to wake up at the end of shift. 24 May 2022, the crew on Steinlager 2 welcomed 24 students and teachers, from Otahuhu College, onboard for two days and one night. These trips are incredibly action packed. It’s a case of, ‘hold on to your hats crew, we have lots to do’. As per every school we strive to deliver the right balance of teaching sailing, having fun and making lasting memories. Phew.. Sailing, leadership, laughing, team building games on shore and onboard, swimming, kayaking, laughing, cooking and cleaning. We even managed a sleep in there! 😊 The Viaduct, Motuihe Island, hoisted all three sails and had a magic sunset sail, gliding up around Rakino and the Noises Islands into Waikalabubu Bay, Motutapu Island for dinner and the night. After the clean up next morning, a very stimulating, exhilarating short blast (sail) back to more games on shore on the NE side of Motuihe Island. We delivered a buzzing bunch of good sorts, later that afternoon back to the Viaduct. ALL OF THIS was very very kindly funded by the Auckland Maritime Foundation. ❤️

Day 4 on the Transat Jacques Vabre for Will & Boris. After a very rough start in strong sailing conditions our duo suffered some electronics issues and had to slow down a bit to fix it.
