Yes, I know, it was off-limits, you are not allowed to sail through the Grand Canal with your tender as a non-resident..... But hey, we are Dutch, to us 'no' means maybe there is a possibility. And we only have this one chance now that we are here with our sailboat and tender. So we just did it. And it was great, also a bit tricky through the narrow canals with a lot of waves and 10,000 other boats, check out our video of the trip in the small canals. There you can see very well that Venice is composed of 118 small islands connected by 400 bridges. We enjoyed how you could almost touch the houses and saw everyone in the city doing their thing (loading fruit into the boat, transporting guests).

Those who restore classic yachts help maintain sailing history – from wooden schooners and meter boats to one-designs. Now, a more modern classic has been restored. George Radley Jr. of Cobh, Ireland, has owned the Ron Holland-designed IMP since the ’90s and has just done a major restoration of this famous 1970s IOR winner. Over the decades, the boat has kept her distinctive look with her topsides painted in a rainbow horizontal green bands going from light green to dark green at the waterline. Originally built for San Francisco sailor David Allen in 1977, the boat was a radical design that turned out to be a breakthrough on the IOR scene. We are on day two of our passage in the Gulf Stream. Our parents said our boat is hauling quickly through the water from 2 to 4 knots of current in the direction we are traveling.
