Power catamarans have twin engines. That makes them much safer than a conventional single engined powerboat. It also makes them very manouverable. Here I am turning our Skoota 28 in circles without using the steering wheel. You can see the engines are in line, turning is achieved by putting one engine in reverse, the other in forward gear I'm not very good at it yet! In part because the engine thrust in forward is much greater than in reverse, (because the exhaust goes through the propeller), so the throttle in forward needs a delicate touch You can build your own Skoota 28 in plywood from plans by Woods Designs, see more at www.sailingcatamarans.com

Performance is the main ingredient of what is bound to be one of the fastest models available on the market today. In fact, powered with three 2000 HP engines, it will be capable of reaching a maximum speed of 50 knots. To ensure maximum lightness and strength, hull and superstructure will be built with epoxy based vinylester resin with carbon fiber and Kevlar reinforcements. credit @palumbosuperyachts
